I am not a camper or cabin girl. But we loved our stay at Evergreen, their cabins and facilities strike the right blend between 5 star hotel and outdoors. It is perfectly set up for kids with the pool, zip line, geocaching, s'mores and movies in the evenings to name a few. It is also far enough away from Yosemite to have a whole variety or hikes that are not crowded, in fact you may be the only ones! My only tip is to bring some lunch food with you as the general store doesn't have a huge variety. Will definitely be returning.

Hello, I’m Lee Zimmerman, one of the owners of the Evergreen. It’s terrific to hear that we struck the right blend of luxury and the outdoors for you and your family. It sounds like you all took advantage of a great range of activities, and that you got to discover some one-on-one time with nature away from the crowds. Thank you for sharing your experience, and for making Yosemite part of your family vacation. We look forward to welcoming you back.
Cheers,
Lee

We recently stayed at the Evergreen Lodge for a wedding. The Lodge is situated down a long road away from anything else and we loved the location. The staff were always courteous and helpful, the food was very good for 2 evenings of wedding festivities, but the accomodations were just OK. We stayed in one of the Vintage Cabins and there was an odor of mice plus propane from the heater. Since it was June, we opened the windows and aired it out. The interior was clean, the bedding comfortable, but the mouse odor detracted from the experience. The wedding itself was beautiful, in a meadow by the lake.

What a great place! Can't say enough about how wonderful our stay was here. The setting is beautiful, close proximity to the Park, a wonderful restaurant and terrific cabins. Oh, did I mention how friendly and helpful the staff is? They are tops.

You wouldn't expect to find this quality of dining in the middle of the woods, but it's here at the Evergreen Lodge. Absolutely outstanding. And they have a store that has just about anything you could want from fresh breakfast foods to clothing and snacks.

Also, Evergreen offers a number of outstanding excursions. My daughter and I did the photography excursion with Robb Hirsch. He's one of the top Yosemite photographers. I was a little apprehensive before i met Robb, but he turned out to be the most patient and friendly person you could wish for. He takes you to beautiful photography sites that most visitors never see. I've been doing photography for 30 years and Robb still taught me a lot about composition and technique. On top of his expert advice, he's also a biologist and naturist, so we learned a lot about the plants and animals we saw. Last, he's just a blast to be around. We laughed and laughed while we learned about photography. Thanks to Robb, I no longer snap photos...I now compose potential works of art.

So, if you're planning a trip to Yosemite, i can't think of a better place than the Evergreen Lodge to stay. You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: They are all good.

First time staying at this hotel after many visits to Yosemite. The 2013 forest fire caused by a camper really came close to this hotel, but don't be put off by the burnt trees. Service, accommodations are wonderful.

This hotel is located a few miles out of Yosemite, within the Stanislaus Forest which burned in August 2013. Even though you will see burnt forest trees for miles, this takes nothing away feom this amazing hotel. The hotel cabins and facilities were untouched by the fire. The cabins are very comfortable, the restuarant was good and the staff was very friendky. Our only complaint was that on tuesday morning the restaurant was running out of supplies and there were no fruit juices and other ingredients for breakfast. But we loved the hotel and highly recomend it.

This was our 4th trip staying at the Evergreen Lodge. Each stay is even better than the last, and never disappoints. This visit was a little different in that we brought our two oldest grandkids with us. When our grandkids turn 10 years old, they can pick a place for Grammy and Papa to take them. My grand-daughter wanted to go gold panning with PaPa (who has been gold panning for 30 yrs) so this request just tickled him. I knew a great place to add to the gold panning at Knights Ferry...the Evergreen Lodge. We invited our 12 yrs grandson so she would have someone to do all the need things at the lodge. Turned out that was a great plan. The two cousins had a great time together. Their highlights were the ZIP LINE, the gorgeous pool and hot tub, cooking s-mores and the General Store. We loved that there wasn't a Wi-Fi connection, because they talked and giggled the whole 4 day stay. Close to bedtime we would cuddle close together and watch a movie on my laptop (w/the DVD player). The food at the restaurant was as always FANTASTIC.....even for picky eaters. All the staff we met were so friendly and upbeat. We ran into the waiter (Kyle) who we had met on our last trip in the Fall. I thanked him for all the information he shared with us then. He had a few more recommendations that the kids might enjoy. We thought that was so nice of him. One recommendation was to hike around the Hetch Hetchy Dam...and since it had rained all night, we could look for salamanders. Well we didn't find any salamanders but really loved walking across the dam (took lots of pictures from both sides of the dam) and through the tunnel. The tunnel was really a unique experience for all of us. As we approached the tunnel we could hear some heavenly music coming from within. At first I thought maybe it was some kind of echo. Once inside we discovered it was actually 3 individuals playing instruments and singing beautifully. It was "so perfect" my grand-daughter actually thought they weren't real :) We enjoyed a short little hike up the hill after the tunnel adventure. On the way back we stopped at the Camp Mather lake to see what fun we could have there. Both kids really enjoyed the Birch Lake and thought it was one of the trip highlights. The kids got to hunt for frogs and turtles, with lots of other kids. Fish with a big net ....they had large koi fish swimming around. At first the kids were afraid the fish might bite them, but the life guards assured them that the fish were more afraid of them. After taking a required swim test, the two swam out to the raft and lounged in the sun.
We got back in time to clean up for dinner and head down to the restaurant. We really enjoyed eating outside in the fresh air. This night was extra special because there was a great band playing in the main plaza. They played a wide range of great music and played for two full hours. There were families with blankets on the grass enjoying the BBQ and wonderful music. There were some people dancing. It was just a very joyful evening. Even when we finally headed up to our cabin, we could still enjoy the music sitting on our deck.
It seemed like every little spare moment the kids wanted to go to the pool and hot tub. That worked out great since our cabin was just a few steps away. We met so many interesting people around and in the pool...everyone is so friendly. The kids met new friends and they all played in the pool for hours !!! It was great to just sit, relax, and even order food and drinks down there. Our last night we were lucky enough that they had a BBQ chef preparing a delicious dinner in the pool area. Well that worked out great....we didn't even have to leave to have dinner.
The other thing the kids really enjoyed was the zipline. Neither had ever experienced anything like that before. It was great fun and exercise for the kids that took turns with a few other kids. I took some great videos with my iPhone....the kids never stopped smiling :)
The last morning, after another great breakfast, we gave each of the kids $20 to buy something to remember their trip by, at the General Store. They both had been checking out all the cool things each day. Our 10yr grand-daughter chose a cute handmade (locally) necklace with a stone that was carved like a bear. Our 12 yr grandson chose a really soft cuddly stuffed fox, to give to his little brother. They each got a gelato for the ride home. We enjoyed the ride out along Evergreen Road. Where we had experienced the devastated burned trees in October, we now enjoyed meadows of green grass and wild flowers. We couldn't help but keep stopping to take pictures of the flowers...our grandkids thought we would never stop taking pictures. You the Rim Fire of 2013 is a great lesson in life. We can chose to look at the burned trees, or we can chose to enjoy the view of beautiful meadows and wildflowers.....life is the same...it's all what we make out of it. We chose to live life with a positive attitude or dwell in all the negative things that happen everyday. Each night at dinner we would play "rose and thorn" with the kids. The first one would tell us the BEST memory of the day, and then the WORSE part of their day. Each night the worse part of all of our days were the mosquito bites...and I thought that was pretty great..... We love to play that game with the grandkids, because you can learn so much about each of them.
All in all it was a VERY SPECIAL trip for all 4 of us...memories that will last a lifetime !! My husband had never experienced Evergreen Lodge in the summer, only Fall. We did stay one night of our honeymoon in the Yosemite Valley in June. It was awful full of people and bumper to bumper cars. That's why we LOVE this lodge, because it's off the beaten path, with all the beauty of the Yosemite area to enjoy. It was the perfect choice for us !!

An excellent choice for visiting Yosemite if you are not staying inside the park. Just 7-1/2 miles outside YNP, 1/2 mile from the North entrance is where the turn for the lodge is, then 7 miles in, towards the Hetchy-Hetchy. (Don't worry about the fire damage you'll see on the way in - the lodge is undamaged.) The Lodge includes cabins for couples or families, main lodge, general store, activities areas, pool & hot tub and restaurant for breakfast/lunch/dinner. Cabins are well appointed and comfortable. Service and food in the restaurant are both very good. Drive into the heart of Yosemite is 30-40 minutes if you leave early. The Lodge has a day-trip staff and many activities in/out of YNP. We did a day-long, 10 mile accompanied hike to the North Dome on our 2d day - absolutely breathtaking. They drive you in, small groups (up to 7), with expert wilderness guides. Trip was $125/pp. Lodge is reasonably priced for the area.
