I recently enjoyed a three night stay at Evergreen Lodge. The menu is beautiful and I did not hesitate to eat here. I was hoping the food would be as good as described. First night in the restaurant was excellent. I ordered the Smoked Duck breast which was perfectly cooked to my liking (medium rare). In my educated culinary opinion (CIA grad 1985), the duck was smoked too long and was way too salty. And I'm not a salt hater. Sorry Cheffy. But still, the dinner was great! Excellent vegetable and starch! Shared a salad with my dining companion and avoided the $3 split plate charge by using our bread plates. Plenty for two.
Excellent wine and service that night with great Ice Cream at the end. Simple!
Second night was a BBQ dinner buffet for our group. Great food again! Only suggestion would be to have identifying cards next to the food we were eating. It was not all recognizable.
Third night was a reception dinner, outdoors for approx. 140 people. Had the Filet Mignon which was great. Perfectly cooked veg and potato. The only problem is that there were only one or two runners bringing the food out and only one person serving. One person cannot effectively serve 140 people. Waters were never re-filled, bread not replenished, and dirty plates left on the tables for at least an hour after we were done eating. No servers to be seen. If I were paying for this I would have been pissed off and in the kitchen rounding up the service staff. BTW...The Evergreen Lodge is not cheap. Overall, excellent food for a banquet.
One more thing....Thank you Chef for sending the food out on hot plates! Every meal. This is usually overlooked these days.
