“We had a tiny room!”
Reviewed August 30, 2009

We went to the Groveland Hotel a week ago. It was nice-it did look like a building out of an old western movie. However, we were disappointed with the room. We stayed in the Casseretto room-it was much smaller than we expected. There was no seating in the room except for one small rocking chair -the only other place to sit was on the bed.

The room was not as it was shown on the Groveland website-the headboard of the bed was up against the window and the configuration did not leave much room to walk around.

On the positive side, the restaurant was excellent. I would not stay at this hotel again-I would only recommend it to friends if they were able to get a suite or larger room.

Thank you, krbrts for your comments,. We always appreciate hearing from our guests and understanding more of how we can make your visit more enjoyable.

You're absolutely correct in that we DO look like something out of an old western movie - with all the modern amenities. The Cassaretto Room does have the bed by the windows, as opposed to the right wall as is portrayed on the website.

We believed there might be more 'walk' room by placing the bed in that position. Everything else is the same, of course, we do change out the comforters periodically, and they may be different.

We'll take a look and see if repositioning the bed might be more comfortable - in fact, we've been considering putting in at an angle in the corner. Again, thanks for your comments and we'll take a look at it.

Chef Lutes does a terrific job in our restaurant - thanks for noticing.

The hotel lookslike it came right out of an old west movie except it had all the modern amenities. It's a perfect location if you don't want to stay in the park at Yosemite. We used the Groveland Hotel as a jumping off point for Yosemite, Zephyr white water rafting and an ad-hoc tour of hech hechy for my history buff son. The hotel is beautiful, quaint, clean, and comfortable. We had a lovely room with a separate sitting room with pull out sofa for the teenagers. It was perfect. We closed the door in between and they stayed up late watching TV. I would love to go back and do the whole trip again.

The Hotel was lovely -- the rooms were beautifully appointed, clean, and very welcoming. We travelled with our small dog who was welcomed virtually everywhere in the Hotel except the main restaurant. But we were able to eat in the bar and on the patio with her. The restaurant was superb. Great food. The bar was classy -- and served up the best Margarita I've had in a long time.
Service was great, the workers and owners were friendly. And it was conveniently located to Yosemite, which was spectacular. I certainly hope to return.

My wife, mother-in-law and myself had the pleasure in staying at The Groveland Hotel recently and was very pleased indeed. The first room we had (Sierra Nevada) was very comfortable, with a door leading out to the upstairs veranda overlooking the main street. After two nights, we transferred to a suite (Hetch Hetchy) after a small mix up with the reservations and we were delighted with the standard of accomodation. Just a shame that we were not there for longer. Our host, Peggy was fantastic to us and we were sorry we didn't get a chance to say goodbye when we left. We also ate outside twice for dinner and the food was nothing short of excellent. Only a couple days before, we dined in a Michelin starred restaurant in Las Vegas and the food at the Groveland wasn't far behind. Also, our waitress/server Candice was fantastic.
One other thing, on Candice's and Peggy's recommendation, we certainly got twisted!! (and got a free rubber chicken as well!!)

This is a nice hotel, with much history, but our room very small, no where to sit anything and no where to sit. Beautiful, but large armoire taking up so much room might have been better to put hang hooks on wall. The teddy bears on the bed are a hoot! As is the unexpected Leopard bathrobe! Nice touch! The large out side deck w /comfortabel seating and a view of the town, a great place to sip some wine, just about makes up for the small room. The Iron Door next door is worth the stay great inexpensive food and live music. All in all a great time

We were still weary from the transatlantic flight when we got into Groveland and we arrived before official check in time. This wasnt a problem and we were made welcome.
The room was clean, beautifully furnished and well appointed. Our meal the first night was constructed from good ingredients prepared and presented to a very high quality. From a British perspective I found chosing from the menu quite hard- most of the options seemed to have one flavour/ingredient too many for my taste (personal thing).
On our second morning the attitude to customer care was again demonstrated, we asked to borrow a phone book to check a number of a stable where we had booked horses, instead mine host found the number, made the call, personally introduced us and smoothed our problems personally without needing to be asked. This commitment to customer care seemed to epitomise our stay here.
We were very late geting back that night and missed the restaraunt's closing time and the half bottle of wine that I had left from the previous night couldn't be found:~(.
Breakfasts here are phenomonal, the rafter's skillet is a must for any fan of a carniverous start to the day and the other fresh fruit, cereal and pastry options put many larger establishments so far in the shade they are blinking!

My wife and I stayed at the Groveland Hotel for our 26th anniversary. We chose the hotel because it's close to Yosemite, about a half hour to the northern gate, and because it's pet friendly. Very friendly and helpful staff, very nice room, we stayed in "Just Juanita" and it was perfect for two people and one dog, very comfortable bed, basic tub/shower and toilet with the sink in the room. We had dinner outside which was very nice, even though the service was a little slow because they were short one person that night, great wine list and the food was excellant! After dinner we went to the Iron Door Bar next door, very cool local bar! And you don't have to be twentysomething to have fun at the Iron Door, my wife's 47 and I'm 51 and we had a great time there. We ate a good breakfast at the hotel before leaving for Yosemite. We would have stayed two nights there but we made our reservations at the last minute and they were booked up. We had a great time in Groveland and will stay at the Groveland Hotel next time we go to Yosemite.

Thanks for your kind words. It sounds like you had a great time in Groveland! The Iron Door Saloon is a fun place to visit and enjoy local color. You can always take a shot at adding your dollar bill to the collection on the ceiling.

So sorry we did not have an extra room for you to stay a second night, definitely our loss, but we look forward to having you stay with us on your next visit.
