Great little restaurant. My wife had the lobster melt and I had the jamaican burreto. Both were excellent. Good and friendly service. We would eat at this rest. again.

The choices are always interesting. The food has always been good. They serve too much on too small a plate which I find overwhelming and unappetizing - but it means leftovers so that's good!
It is always LOUD (and this is a breakfast/lunch place so no drinking or sports tv). Sometimes painfully loud.

When in historic downtown Grass Valley, don't miss a chance to have breakfast , lunch, or beer at South Pine Cafe. Located a block off the main drag next to a no fee parking lot, this restaurant has it all: bold coffee, homemade muffins, spicy scrambles and wraps, home fries with homemade ketchup, delicious sandwiches and hearty soups and burgers as well as healthy freshly made juices. High ceilings and a vibrantly painted interior are a great backdrop for an ever changing art exhibit! The servers, particularly Todd, are friendly and relaxed. An average entree runs about $10. If you come on a weekend between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., be prepared to wait a few minutes to be seated because the locals come out in droves! There is another location in Nevada City offering the same great menu as well as an art exhibit, but the building is very narrow and feels a little too tight for my liking. Only problem with South Pine is that it's not open for dinner.

We were attracted by their sign that said, "Breakfast, Lunch, and Beer". We said yes to all three.

Both times we came we had the same waitress. She was pleasant, friendly and gave good recommendations on what to eat.

I ordered vegetarian each time and was very happy. The food tasted great and was filling.

The atmosphere was that of a small cafe in the mountains, which it is. I especially liked the paintings by students from an art school for people with mental disabilities.

I would go definately recommend this restaurant.

We spent a few days in the Grass Valley/ Nevada City area, and were lucky to visit the South Pine Cafe in Grass Valley for a late lunch. They serve a breakfast/lunch menu and close in late afternoon.

Had some very tasty Huevos Racheros that were amazing. Service is laid back, yet attentive.
