“Always interesting”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

We have been to the Empire Mine numerous times and took Jayden (4 years old) today. He enjoyed all the mining equipment and a tour of the cottage with people in character. The grounds are so beautiful and well kept. The only thing missing is they do not sell any food.

“Empire Mine Annual Miners Picnic.”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

I had a good time at this event and although I visited the park in 2006 on a vacation, I saw stuff this time I didn't even know was there before! The mine disaster reinactment was fun. Thank goodness volunteers take an interest in this history so it is not lost to us.

“Visit The Mine, A Do Not Miss Event For Tourists.”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

I once lived near the park, on "East Empire", right off of Hwy 49. Back then it was a walking tour of the old mine and home with luscious grounds/gardens. What a feast for the scenes the garden is...

Now, the mine is open for tours and the very experienced docents are very pleasant and very knowledgeable. If you've ever wondered what a "Pelton-Wheel" is, you will find out. They will show you how to extract gold, crush the rock and how the miners actually lived on the grounds.
Nearby, for the equestrians, there are many miles of Horseback trails - (Bring your own horse). There is plenty of parking for large trailers w/truck nearby too.

A Fascinating Fact: All of the homes near the mine are honeycombed with underground mine shafts and tunnels. Hundreds of shafts tunnel under the City and when you enter the Mine's main entrance, (where the "Oar Carts" start their decent "Down" into the abyss - seriously - it will amaze you with the angle of the drop these Miners would take, placing all of their faith in the small cable that lowered them to their work stations.

It will take you a few hours to see everything on these grounds - including the assay office, miner's quarters, main house, gardens - (pack a picnic lunch), and the mine.
A wonderful, Educational, Event - (for ages 10 and up). Not recommended for children under 10 - they will be bored.

“Great History”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

If you have any interest in the Gold Rush or the Mother Lode, this is a must-visit place. The mine shaft is amazing and really gives one a good idea of how the miners reached the gold. The room with the wire mock-up of the tunnels, drifts, and shafts is unequalled.
