Super 8 Santa Barbara/Goleta
Ranked #7 of 12 Hotels in Goleta
Reviewed December 28, 2009

i've stayed at other super8s before and none of those have quality this poor. the washroom is spacious, however the shower stall is not made of glass doors, it's made of cement walls with a non- transparent shower curtain and there is NO LIGHT in the stall. so you cant see anything when you shower, it's dark. in which part of the world do you not need light to shower? the heat light in the washroom is not working. the heater in the room is way TOO LOUD. there are just two sheets to sleep with, there is no actual blanket in december. and it's impossible to sleep with the noise with the heater on. the fan in the washroom is very loud as well. this location is so close to airport as well so airplane noise is loud too. there is cable tv and internet, but i assume these things are already a must in hotels nowadays (so they dont compensate for the flaws mentioned above). overall this hotel is very bad, dont stay here if you dont absolutely have to.

We wanted a hotel near Santa Barbara on Saturday night for not too much money. This is that. Rooms are tiny, with shower stalls rather than tubs, but there's cable and A/C. Free breakfast is cereal, milk, danish, and english muffins. Again, good but nothing special.

The Super 8 Motel at Santa Barbara [ SBA ] airport is a good choice for economy minded. Surprise, it is Spartan and cheap.
1. I encountered problems but given the low cost and help from the staff we had a good 5 days. Some rooms have a problem with a [ sewer? ] gas odor in the rooms. I think it is an ongoing problem that may require and expensive repair, so it goes on. Hello! Super 8, fix it. Other guests complained of the odor also. Check rooms before unpacking. If it is too small, some are postage stamp size, get another room right away. The side facing Hollister Ave is noisy. The airport side, the south west side, is quieter. Jet noise is rare at night. The TVs are old tube type. Coin washer/dryer 1st floor.
2. --I thought the morning buffet at other SBA hotels was bad until I came to Super 8. They make the other hotel breakfasts look like a royal feast. OK it is minimal, but you get an OJ, coffee and go.
3. --You cannot cancel if you book directly with Super 8 web site! I tried to cancel when I found a beach side in SBA at the same price! But booking thru a broker will allow you to cancel.
4. –The pool is 45 feet and clean and I saw no one there on Monday to Thursdays, usually. The area has all the appeal of a Russian labor camp, but it is ok with clean restrooms and an ice machine. The saving graces are the palm trees, nice weather and clean, cool water. For $83 a day, it is wonderful.
5. – To avoid noise and motorcycle clubs [ yes, they checked in, Heavens Angles, families on Harleys, no kidding ] arrive on a Sunday or Monday and leave on Friday. Cheaper too. Do not attempt to drive south of Carpenteria on Fri Sat or Sun. It is legendary horrid traffic the likes of which you will not believe. It is solid cars, bumper to bumper, 4 mph, for 130 miles, no kidding.

I was in town for a conference and this place had everything I needed: bed, large bathroom, desk to write at, location close to freeway. Just down the street is a great vegetarian place, but aside from that and a McDonald's there's not much near this motel - which isn't a big surprise I guess. There were some great nooks above the bed to put stuff like books and alarm clocks, I appreciated that.

Free breakfast and coffee were really not bad. The room was a little expensive, but hey, it's Santa Barbara (or close enough to it). I have no real complaints to speak of, but I won't be dancing through the ceiling at the thought of staying there again.

I was in Santa Barbara for a seminar, and I stayed for one night because Super 8 Goleta was close to SB and cheaper for a room on a weekend than anything I saw in SB. I bid $107 on Priceline. All I wanted was basic accommodation and that's what I got.

Room 204 was nothing special but clean and quiet. I asked for a no-smoking room - it wasn't (the ashtrays were a giveaway!) but when I ran the AC/fan for an hour the lingering smoke smell cleared up.

The neighborhood didn't have anything to recommend it. Didn't see any decent restaurants at that exit off the 101.

If I wanted anything more than a clean crash - if I was planning to spend any amount of time in the room - I'd look for something better & probably more expensive in SB.

Great location, close to UCSB, which is what I was there for. Rooms were nice and average sized with TVs and some with refrigerators. Staff is excellent and rooms are semi-clean.

The first room they gave me, 220 , was really stinky with very bad light in bathroom . There was no fire exit, no sprinkler or alarm, so I asked to be moved. They moved me to room 327, good room, decent everything! Tis hotel is good for it's proximity to fwy, airport, and trains but because of that, you hear everything. Morning breakfast was greasy Danish, bad coffee, 2 cereals- fruit loops and cheerios. Surly help. No lotions, soaps or shampoos.
