Gaige House, A Four Sisters Inn

The property was everything we expected and more. A quiet locale with some excellent local restaurants combined with one of the nicest rooms I've ever stayed in at a hotel. Service was also top notch. Though not terribly close to a lot of tourist attractions or wineries, I would still highly recommend the property for quiet, romantic getaways in the Sonoma/Napa area.

We stayed in the Zen Suite for two nights to celebrate our anniversary.

Pros:
1. Very clean hotel
2. Suite is very spacious
3. Nice decor
4. Very quiet
5. Nice bathroom with double showers, huge granite tub and heater for the bathroom
6. Free bottle of wine and water bottles daily
7. Great customer service
8. Close restaurants nearby (you can walk there)
9. Nice fireplace
10. Plenty of closet space
11. Extras: bath robes to use, free coupons for wine tasting (front desk), nice water fountain in the yard, free wi-fi

Cons:
1. Expensive
2. Breakfast was almost the same for both days we were there: one egg dish, yogurt with berries & granola, orange juice, croissant and pastries, coffee, toast with jam.
3. Breakfast ended at 10; food almost ran out and staff did not replace many food items after 9:30 am

Recommendations for management:
1. Provide a real full breakfast for your guests who are splurging more than $300 a night for the hotel. Hilton's Homewood Suite provide a lot more breakfast selection and their room rates are very affordable.
2. Extend your breakfast time to 11 or provide breakfast delivery to the guest's room. People come here to relax and get rested. Not to wake up early to eat breakfast. If breakfast cannot be extended past 10, please replenish your food until 9:59am.

This small inn in Glen Ellen is a real find. The zen suite was immense...granite soaking tub big enough for a party! The courtyard within the room and the greenery enclosed patio beyond gave it a wonderful peaceful feeling. Breakfast was tasty and in addition to the buffet with an egg dish, one could have eggs cooked to order, as well.

The one suggesetion I would make to them is to be more welcoming.

Room Tip: Zen suite is amazing

Though a lot of people focus on being close to ground zero in Napa, Sonoma County also has its fare share of places to visit for dining and wine tasting, Gaige House is well situated north of Sonoma, just about 15 miles from Santa Rosa and 20 or so to Healdsburg, my favorite place in Napa and Sonoma. Though it may be tricky to find the first time, it has a lovely setting on a small river, with some beautiful suites. It also has some rooms (and a suite) in the main house. These are smaller and more affordable, but not as nice. Everything was clean and organized and nicely appointed.A couple things though--there wasn't much communications right before the stay. We were arriving late and although I knew our reservation was confirmed, a call, with directions would have left my mind more at ease. In the end, we turned up at 10 PM, and they left the envelope with directions and a key at the door. Would have been nice if someone answered my phone calls much earlier in the day--but all I got was voicemail and never did get a call back. Second--it advertises a full breakfast, which isn't really true. It has a very nice continental breakfast with an extra. One day was deviled eggs, the other was a quiche. Good--but not really a full breakfast. We really enjoyed our stay though.

Room Tip: Definitely go for the creekside suites if that is part of your budget.

My husband and I stayed in Zen Garden Suite #15. It was lovely. We had a private patio, beautiful bathroom, interior garden, relaxing bedroom with a fireplace. Upon arrival we received a bottle of wine and were offered cheese and crackers. In the morning, we had delicious French press coffee in our room followed by a tasty breakfast in the dining room. It was a wonderful experience.

My husband and I booked visited Sonoma for the first time in June. We booked a room at the Gaige House in Sonoma. Upon our arrival, we were shown around the inn. The Inn had beautiful grounds with a lovely porch, a beautiful pool and jacuzzi, and a hammock and picnic table in the back yard. There were also spa treatments available. There was a study with a fireplace where light snacks were served each evening, and a warm-welcoming eating area where a delicious breakfast was served. We were given a complimentary bottle on wine upon our arrival and two bottles of water each day. Breakfast included some delicious egg dish (fritatta one day, poached eggs another), homemade croissants, mini muffins, and bread; fresh fruit/yogurt/granola. The kitchen staff was very friendly and welcoming. There were also homemade cookies out each night for inn guests. The Inn was walking distance to many great restaurants including the Fig Cafe and the Olive and the Vine. Our room was located on the second floor in the front of the inn. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was large as well. It was spotless and there was plenty of room to unpack.

Pluses - Excellent food; beautiful grounds; convenient location to town; clean/comfortable room

Minuses - There were no bellmen for a large part of our stay so we had to carry our own bags to and from our room on the second floor; although the office staff was helpful when we specifically asked for help, they spent most of their time behind computer desks; we asked them to make a reservation for us for dinner, but when we arrived at dinner, no reservation had been made.

Room Tip: If you want a view of the grounds and a more quiet experience, ask for a room in the back or stay in...

Whether you are looking to get away for one night or a week, look no further. The Gaige House is your place if you're looking for a little slice of heaven on earth. My husband and I are SF Bay Area natives and live approx. 1 hour and 15 mins. by car away from Glen Ellen. We were looking for a quick & quiet get away before our children were home full-time for the summer. We could not have picked a better place. The Gaige House is a beautiful inn, located in the quaint town of Glen Ellen in the Sonoma Valley.

We arrived at the Gaige House on a warm late afternoon, and we were greeted warmly in the parking lot by one of the hotel staff who immediately offered to help us with our bags. We declined since we only had 2 small overnight bags, and he then asked if we would like to have ice brought to our room. We said yes, and off he went to have it taken care of that moment. We made our way into the inn, where another hotel staff was there waiting to open the door and greet us. Was this all necessary? No, but just shows the kind of friendly service offered here. (Oh, and did I mention the homemade cookies offered throughout the day and evening in the entry area? Delicious!)

The inn itself is beautifully kept. A charming historic home converted into a tastefully decorated inn. We were lucky enough to book a Zen (Garden) Suite via a "Last Minute Special." These one-story suites are separate from the main inn. Ours was #16, located at the end of the row. As soon as we opened the door to our suite, we were blown away. The two rooms, connected by a hallway overlooking a small Japanese garden, exuded peace and quiet with the modern, Asian decor. The bathroom had a huge, black granite, soaking tub which easily fit two people as well as showers for two. The bedroom had a king bed with fireplace, a wall mounted, flat screen TV, a sitting area, small refrigerator (complete with a complimentary bottle of champagne to celebrate my husband's recent retirement), and yet another outdoor patio area with two lounge chairs. Oh and yes, the ice bucket was, of course, filled with ice. You really didn't need to ask for more. We've stayed at many 5 star hotels, but this was really at the top of the list due to the tranquility and privacy provided in such a beautiful atmosphere.

While we would have been completely happy to stay in our suite the whole time during our stay, we did venture out to eat at the local restaurants for lunch (Glen Ellen Inn) and dinner (The Fig Cafe). Both restaurants did not disappoint. The food and service were excellent, and it was nice to dine out in a semi-casual environment. Next time, we plan to try the Glen Ellen Star as that appeared to be another popular restaurant.

If you're a wine lover, you will love staying here as there are wineries galore to choose from in the area. Even if you don't drink wine much, or at all, this is still the place for you for quiet and relaxation. You can explore nearby Sonoma or just stay in Glen Ellen, which is also the home of Jack London State Park. World famous author Jack London made Glen Ellen his home, and the beautiful park (formerly Jack London's ranch) contains the cottage where he lived and wrote many of his books, the house his wife lived in following his death and is now a museum in his honor, beautiful vineyards, a lake, and other remaining structures from Jack London's ranch.

We only had time to stay for one night, but we managed to explore Jack London State Park, eat at two wonderful restaurants, go swimming and hot tubbing at the inn, with still plenty of time to just relax in our suite. There is no doubt we will be returning frequently to the Gaige House to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life.

Room Tip: Zen Suites are luxurious, quiet, and private!
