“Paradise at the Gaige House”
Reviewed June 11, 2012

We had the pleasure of staying at the Gaige House for six magical days in June 2012. We were tucked way in the Zen Suite, (Room #20). When we opened the door to our Asian inspired paradise, we knew we had made the right decision upon selecting this luxury inn for our annual wine tasting trip.

We have had the privilege and pleasure of staying in many luxury hotels around the world and we can honestly say that the Zen Suite is one of the most unique, well-appointed and soothing spaces we've ever been in.

My fiancé and I are very discriminating with respect to where we stay on vacation. We want luxury but not stuffiness. We respond to “welcoming” not “overbearing.” And it’s safe to say that the Gaige House met all of our expectations.

It's the perfect place to escape to after hours of exploring and wine tasting in Sonoma County. We lounged by the pool and spent time out by the creek. We got the distinct impression that the people who created the Gaige House, the staff who provides impeccable service and the owners themselves must have a deep understanding of what is means to achieve excellence, while being a true conduit for inspiration; both of which we found while staying here.

Upon our return, we plan to take an advantage of their spa services. We spent too much time wine tasting to fit it that luxury on this last trip. We won't make that mistake again!!!

The town of Glen Ellen is a special place as well. I urge you to go and experience the wine tasting rooms, markets and most importantly, the superb restaurants, namely the Glen Ellen Star. It’s a brand new restaurant in Glen Ellen. The staff at the Gaige House urged us to check it out, as well as many other delicious restaurants in the area. Our experience there was truly memorable. My fiancé had the paella (the special) and I had one of the best gourmet wood fired pizzas I’ve ever had. We split a bottle of a Hughes Zinfandel.

It’s worth noting that an evening at the Glen Ellen Star, we had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of Mr. Daniel Parks and his beautiful wife. They own (with their partners) the Gaige House (as well as other luxury inns @ www.foursisters.com) and we have yet to meet a couple that is more genuinely friendly and truly welcoming. It is obvious that they are proud of their community and the work that they do.

I suppose it goes with out saying that we are sure to return to The Gaige House, with the intention of taking in the tranquility of room #20, as well as the wine, food and majestic vistas of Sonoma County. Just Go!

P.S. A special thanks must be extended to Peter and Cheryl, as well as the entire staff at The Gaige House. Your willingness to ensure that we had a magical time in Sonoma did not go unnoticed!

Room Tip: Room 20 is private and quiet. It's at the back of the property. We heard nothing but the nature...

We were booked into a small room and after the first night, asked if we could move to a larger room. Tamara was fabulous as she recommended the Gaige House suite which was almost double the cost of our original room. She graciously offered to let us have it for less than the actual cost of the upgrade and it was more than worth it. Huge room with large balcony, gigantic bathroom and overall much much much nicer than our original nice but cramped room (plus original room had a kinda creepy headboard). The staff was very gracious and helped us plan our days in Sonoma. They gave good suggestions and never seemed put out with the plethora of questions. I would highly recommend the Gaige House for anyone wanting a spot to travel to and from the see Sonoma. And the homemade cookies each day were serendipity.

We recently spent a few nights at this beautiful hotel (the website does not do it justice). We stayed in a Zen Suite, which was very spacious, private, tasteful and functional. There were two pretty outside areas (not overlooked), one with sunbeds on, a large bathroom with a huge bath carved from granite and a double shower, and a big bedroom and lounge area with fire. The little extras are worth mentioning - the complimentary bottle of wine on arrival, the fresh cookies made on a daily basis, the fresh ground coffee in the rooms, the luxurious Aveda bathroom products etc. The breakfast was also very good - quite a bit of choice and all very nice. The staff were friendly and helpful, and knowledgeable about the wineries and vineyards. We would stay here again without hesitation.

I would definitely stay at the Gaige House again, and recommend it to friends and family.

My wife and I stayed in a Zen suite, which was everything that we hoped for based on the pictures and reviews on TripAdvisor. It was a romantic and relaxing stay. The bathroom deserves special mention with a huge soaking tub and a walk-in shower area with two shower heads. The bed was very comfortable and it was very quiet at night; we slept very well. The room was spacious, impeccably clean, and had a pleasant smell.

The service at the Gaige House was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. They made some very nice suggestions for wineries to visit and restaurants to eat at. The included breakfast was very good and what you'd expect from a high-end B&B. You're presented with a bottle of wine upon arrival so you can kick back immediately.

The Gaige House is a good location for exploring Sonoma County. Napa is a scenic 30-minute drive away, which we didn't mind it at all; Healdsburg about the same. This is a good choice if you want to stay off the beaten track, but be striking distance to everything.

My one minor quibble is that the zen music by the pool was a bit of an overkill. I'd rather listen to the nearby babbling brook.

A couple tips:
1. The Zen suites are a fantastic deal off-season for the luxury you get to enjoy. 2011 had a late harvest and we got to enjoy everything with fewer crowds at the end of October.

2. The Fig Cafe is walking distance and delicious. Bring your own bottle of Sonoma County wine for no corking fee.

3. I seem to remember that children and teenagers are not permitted.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Gaige House Inn in a Zen Suite. The suite was exquisitely decorated and extremely comfortable. It is obvious that the designer spared no expense and paid attention to details. The bathroom is amazing with a tub and sink bowls carved out of granite. The double rain-shower is wonderful. There were little night lights in the wall near the floor so you didn't trip at night. Perhaps one of our favorite features (though there are so many it is hard to say) were the two private garden areas. One had a water feature that sounded like a gently running creek. The staff at the Gaige House was attentive, helpful, and knowledgeable. Ann was especially helpful in filling us in on the history of the house and her suggestions for dinner and wine tasting were excellent. This is truly a place to relax and recharge. The grounds are also lovely. Fortunately, we booked during the "Spring Special" time which greatly reduced the price of our room.

Room Tip: I am sure all rooms were lovely, but the Zen Suite was spacious and beautiful. Ask for one at the f...

We stayed for two nights in a Zen suite (rm 19, from memory), which was in a row of four located furthest from the road and next to a small stream. Anna at reception welcomed us warmly, showed us around the reception rooms and gave us loads of dining and winery tips. The room itself was very spacious and tastefully decorated. A generous bathroom, with granite egg-shaped bathtub and double shower, two sinks and wc, was connected to the bedroom via a short corridor, which looked out into a small enclosed oriental garden. The bedroom was roomy with a large comfortable bed, a fireplace, minibar and coffee-making facilities, a seating area with two small sofas and a small private patio overlooking the stream at the back. The photos on the Gaige House website are accurate, but they don't quite convey the sense of space and relaxation in the room. We slept perfectly. The breakfast didn't have a very wide range of choice but everything was very fresh and of very good quality. We would love to return.

Room Tip: If you can find a good deal, I would recommended the Zen suites. Very peaceful, away from the road...
