Owner description: In the wine world, tradition often tempers creativity, individuality and imagination. But at Imagery Estate Winery, an unconventional approach inspires richly expressive wines and a wine drinking experience that entices you to broaden your palate. After a day in wine country, it can all start to blend together. 'Chard, Merlot, Cab, Pinot, Chard, Cab, blah, blah, blah. At Imagery, we're all about experimenting with new varietals, exploring little known grape regions, and shining the spotlight on wines that are usually swallowed up in big blends. Stop by for a walk in our herb and vegetable garden, a tasting, or a tour of our art gallery.

Imagery Estate offers a great tasting experience: Generous tastes of really good wines you won't see at your neighborhood grocery store, with friendly and informative pourers. Our experience was ideal, as we were a small group of four on one of the Sonoma Wine Trolleys; our pourer gave us extra attention (and a couple of extra tastes!). We ended up buying (and bringing home) several bottles of wines we wouldn't ordinarily have bought-- some superb whites, to be specific (our household does NOT drink white wine as a rule) as well as awesome reds. Well worth a visit!

We had a wonderful, relaxed tasting experience at Imagery. Our wine pourer, Karen, took time to explain the wines as we tasted them, and she poured a number of wines that weren't on the tasting menu. We love to go wine tasting, and the attention and enthusiasm of the pourer can make or break the experience; in this case, we had one of the best winery experiences we've ever had! We'd highly recommend Imagery to anyone in the Glen Ellen area to taste wine!

My wife, brother, and I visited 7 different wineries during our day trip to Sonoma. Of all the places that we visited, this one stood out as the best. Rather than review all 7 and negatively comment about the ones we didn't enjoy, I figured giving props to the best and discussing why was better.

First off, the winery (as many in this area are) was picturesque. Excellent surrounding scenery. Bocce ball courts. Outdoor, live music. Made for a a great mood setter.

The friendliness of the staff and the fun atmosphere was the next thing we truly enjoyed. Some wineries we visited felt stuffy and pretentious. At others, you felt afraid to touch anything lest you tick off the staff. And some want you to call ahead before you visit (I get it though - it helps to control the experience and cut down on the drunken nonsense you see at times). At Imagery, you had none of those negatives. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The other people visiting seemd to be truly enjoying themselves. The environment lent itself to exploration. Overall, we walked away feeling energized by our visit.

The last thing we truly enjoyed was the wine tasting. Every wine we had was noteworthy. Lest you think we were feeling our other visits, this was only the third winery we visited. During our trip we vowed to buy the best wine we tasted at each place. Needless to say, it was extremely difficult to pick just one here. Thankfully, the staff let us try beyond the 5 limit of the $10 tasting because we ended up picking one that we did not taste in the first 5.

More than likley, I will not get to visit this winery again. I am also sad that they are unable to ship to my home state. However, should I ever be in the area again, I would make it a point to return here.

We had just had a negative customer service experience at their sister winey, Benziger, and were a little nervous about even trying Imagery but decided that the free tasting at Imagery (since we'd just been to Benziger) might make it worthwhile. The tasting room is a little small and was quite crowded but we managed to find a spot and were lucky to be served by Caryn who somehow managed to juggle several tasting groups very well and still give a level of personalized service. We liked several of their wines and are having a case of one of their Malbecs shipped to us (got lucky here that they were having a sale on a wine that we liked very much). The grounds a very lovely and it would be worth spending some time enjoying the lovely California weather.

My wife, my adult daughter, and I dropped in this morning. We were served by a super accommodating gentleman to encouraged us to taste as many of the available wines as we wanted rather than picking the five limit covered by the $10 fee.

We ended up purchasing some Petit Syrah, Mourvedre, Wow Oui (Sauvignon Blanc), Upper Ridge Malbec, Sangiovese, and Port. Even more astonishing, we joined their wine club. I only belong to one wine club (Andrew Murray) and typically resist any temptation to join any others. We liked there wines that much.

The winery is really playful with tremendous labels and tons of art. They offer a 77% red grape, 23% blueberry wine called Code Blue that is truly unique (although we chose not to buy any).

This was an hour we really enjoyed.
