This place is the real deal. If you are lucky you can get your pours from the wine maker himself. Excellent everyday wines and port. Ask and your bottles will be signed. Place is plain, but if you are looking for a boutique winery, then this is the stop.

We visited Loxton Cellars on a recent trip to Sonoma as part of a tour group. Chris Loxton was a great host. is wines were pretty good, but his port was amazing. I am not a port drinker, but my husband is, and I can say that we both loved this port. Chris even signed the bottle for us.

We are visiting from New York on a family wine trip. We had someone from the area plan our whole trip for us. Out of all the wineries we had visited (Robert Mondavi, Joseph Phelps, and others), this was by far the best. Christopher, the wine maker, was extremely knowledgable on a lot of subjects, obviously in wine as well. He taught us the most and made us laugh as well. I have to admit, we were very judgmental at first because it is a very small winery and not as focused on asethics as other ones. His wine was outstanding. We all loved it so much that we joined his wine club and bought a whole lot of wine. Thank you! If we do another wine tasting California trip, we will definely stop here again.

We have been visiting Loxton winery since it first opened, (about ten years). We make 3 or 4 trips a year, in the spring for the Heart of Sonoma Valley barrel tasting weekend to purchase futures, and then later to pick them up.

Like other reviewers have said, Chris Loxton will give you the straight scoop on his wines, how they are blended, where the grapes are grown etc. He only makes wines when the quality is there, not when the bean counters in marketing want it. Every variety is not available every year. Check out all the details on his web site and stop in when you are in the Sonoma Valley.

Check your map and keep your eyes open. There is no rock wall grand entry or caves in the mountain, just an A frame sandwich board at the end of the driveway next to Dunbar Rd. where it meets Hwy 12. The winery and tasting room are in a simple warehouse type building about two hundred yards up the driveway. Enjoy!

We called very late in the day to see if they could accommodate us on short notice and the owner kindly did. It was wonderful to chat with him and taste his yummy wines. This is one of the most relaxed tasting rooms we visited, and the tastes are free. We bought two bottles and recommend this as a "don't miss" low-key and down-to-earth, authentic experience.
