Owner description: At Benziger, we're about three things: family, great wine and healthy vineyards. For more than thirty years, we've farmed our ranch on Sonoma Mountain and searched Sonoma County for the most distinctive and expressive vineyards. Once found, we tend these sites using certified Biodynamic, organic and sustainable farming methods. The result is a portfolio of authentic and memorable wines. Our Partners Wine Tour will satisfy the palate of any wine enthusiast. This tour provides a behind-the-scenes look at our Biodynamic estate vineyard and wine caves and finishes with an exclusive wine tasting of estate wines.

Beautiful setting, playgrounds for kids, shaded walking paths, train tours of the vineyards to explain wine making, and tastings...all very well done. Their wines are reliably good, mid to upper mid level. They need to enlarge the outdoor seating decks to take advantage of the setting of the tasting area.

This winery was recommended by the Concierge at Fairmont Sonoma and now we highly recommend it as well. We had a private tour with a friendly tractor driver, treated like we were VIPs. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and he genuinely loved what he was doing and who he was working for. Gorgeous property, wonderful tasting wines, great staff. We even met Mike Benziger who just happened to be around and started conversing with us. We plan on buying more wines made by this wonderful family!
Unlike the Chateau St. Jean we also visited almost at closing time - they didn't give us the time of day - maybe we didn't have the right look, had our 11yr oldwith us? No one even said Hi, although people who came in after us were catered to - I'll stop buying their wines from now on!! What a huge difference.

Since we had already visited several wineries in France we were looking for something different in the Sonoma / Napa valley. At the tourist information right at the entry of Sonoma they recommended the Benziger estate and it was a good choice: a familiy owned business working by applying the Rudolf Steiner method. A lot of respect for nature and trying to live with the land instead off the land. There is a lot of information out in display which anyone can visit without having to take the full paid tour. This is great when you are with a baby like in our case: we spent an hour and a half just walking around on the estate reading the explanation about the process amidst flowers and trees. The wine tasting shop is also good

As we walked in we were well received and greeted by a nice woman and I forgot her name but she was at the end table. We even got to talking about home(montreal) and how shes been to visit! Although I was sick throughout this visit, she had me sample a few wines that normally I would like, for instance a Zinfindel. As soon as she noticed my fiances reaction, she brought out a wine she thout he would enjoy, which was a syrah/shiraz! which was very good as well! We unfortunately did not get to do the tour of the vines but enjoyed our time there! I have to say the next day I was feeling much better, I believe the wine tasting killed my cold! Again, this is a must see winery! :)

We had researched ahead of our Napa Valley tour and had selected 2 ‘must see’ vineries. Benziger was the first on the list (Artesa being the other). Benziger lived up to the expectation.

We started with an educational tour of the vineyard properties, on a tractor trolley (quite comfortable), which tells you about the intricacies of grape farming and wine making; about the organic farming techniques they have evolved (including an insectary) and are following; and of the smoked barrels (most interesting part for me) that actually get the flavours out. Wine tasting itself was interesting as we got into a discussion with the staff on what would go well with Indian curries. Loved the Syrah as also their port wine.

Wine tasting circuit in Napa Valley is now serious business. Prices have gone up and one must make informed choices to get the best experience. Benziger's was a very enjoyable and informative visit. Definitely recommended.
