“Hidden Gem in Glen Ellen”

Where do we begin.....a hidden gem in Glen Ellen and we are so lucky to have stayed there for 5 days. As all the other reviews rave about the staff, we will do the same. From he minute we arrived we were greeted by Julie who was full of information for us as we waited for our friends to arrive. We were spending the weekend at Vintage Car Races at Sonoma Raceway. Julie walked us down to our room in the front under the dining room. Everything was perfect, nicely furnished and a modern bathroom. Our friends arrived and were in room next door.. Kent Sorensen arrived and was most gracious and recommended restaurants for us to try. We lounged under the giant Oak trees and sipped on the complimentary wines. Paradise! The next morning brought us up to sample the outstanding breakfast that is offered every day. The chef Khambay was very friendly and outdoes herself with her gourmet breakfast. After a long day at the race track, our guys enjoyed a soak in the hot tub before dinner. The grounds are beautiful and a good way to relax on all the comfortable outdoor furniture. We will return and hope to see all the same smiling friendly faces at the Olea Hotel!

The facility is great but the real story is the staff. It started with Gretchen on the phone. She recommended two restaurants and a local winery for starters. She handled all of the reservations and everything was great. Next was Julie at check in. She was very friendly and full of good advice. The stars of the staff are Khambay Porterkhamsy, the Executive Chef, Kent Sorenson, concierge extraordinaire, and Chris in the evenings. They were all amazing and made our stay one of our best trips ever.
I can't say enough about the breakfast and the service. We will be back soon.

My husband and I first stayed at Olea in September 2012 when we got engaged. We had such a great experience that we decided to come back 2 years later just this past weekend as a family-- including my sister, her husband, our twin baby girls, and our pet Max in tow--and they did not disappoint! They were so accommodating and gave us the larger cottage with the pack and play for the babies to play in. So sweet! I know they don't usually allow children under 18 and we were so grateful they made an exception for us. For dinner Kent the concierge (we love Kent!) recommended a superb restaurant for the evening--Glen Ellen Star, you have to go. For outdoor lounging their grounds are beautiful--we were able to spread out a blanket on their beautiful lawn to have complimentary glass of wine as the babies played. They even had dog bowls for Max since we forgot to pack for him! The cottage was amazing--very private and surrounded by beautiful landscaping with a super comfortable bed, heated floors in the bathroom and the best shower ever! I was so relaxed by the time we called it a night. Which is a rare thing for new parents of twins. Breakfast is not to be missed. We had a lovely morning in the patio with the entire family enjoying the meal and taking in the country air. Best way to start the day. OIea was really home away from home for us. We felt so comfortable and welcomed, I can't imagine staying anywhere else. Can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: We enjoyed the cottage as a family but we've also stayed in the queen rooms which is also perfec...

My wife and I traveled up to Glen Ellen for a 3-night stay earlier this month. The Olea Hotel is about 1/3 mile west of town in a quiet area of homes. The grounds and the room we booked were world class; the present owners have put enormous effort and resources into the place and it shows. My wife says the mattress we slept on is called a "pillow-top", and it was like sleeping on a cloud. The closet was not large but it was adequate, and the number of drawers and shelves in our room let us unpack fully. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the breakfasts were excellent. Parking requires a little maneuvering on the hillside lot when the place is full, and exiting the driveway onto the street requires your full attention; traffic is not heavy but it is fast, and the view to each side is restricted until you are almost in the roadway. But paying attention behind the wheel is always a good idea, and this place was worth the challenge.

My husband and I spent a 5-day vacation in Sonoma/Napa for our 10th anniversary and thought we'd come home raving about wine tastings and beautiful weather, but instead all we can talk about is Olea. We don't know what to praise most...the way every member of staff treated us like family, the gorgeously landscaped grounds with intimate sitting areas, the gourmet two-course breakfasts, the homemade chai tea (ahh! delicious!) , the thoughtful touches like bringing us freshly roasted almonds to accompany our complimentary wine in the evenings by the firepit, the room itself which had the softest sheets and heated bathroom floors. Whenever we returned to Olea from a day of exploring, simply stepping out of the car and inhaling the lavender/green scent and hearing the breeze through the oaks and olive trees brought an immediate sense of relaxation and more than that: a sense of coming home. Between that and the fact that we find ourselves actually missing the staff because they became like friends, we rate Olea as the best hotel experience we've ever had.

After getting married in Napa, my husband and I escaped to Sonoma for our honeymoon. We could not have been more pleased with our experience at the Olea. We booked one of the garden cottages (#10) which offered great privacy and romance. The in-room fireplace, heated floors, complimentary water and snacks were a nice touch. We were also pleasantly surprised by the bottle of champagned which greeted us upon check-in (and it wasn't the cheap stuff).

As others have noted, what sets this hotel apart is the high quality customer service offered by Kent and the folks working at the front desk and kitchen. Breakfast was wonderful and the kitchen was easily able to accomodate my gluten free needs. Complimentary wine tasting passes are always a welcomed amentity as tasting fees can quickly add up. The staff are SUPER helpful without being overbearing.

If you are looking for a quiet and scenic stay this is your place! There are plenty of wineries within a 5-15 minute drive; Napa Valley is about 30-45 minutes away depending on where in the valley you are headed.

Room Tip: Select a cottage for maximum privacy. They are close to the hot tub but we did not experience any i...

The Olea Hotel is a true gem - comfortable, modern, nicely decorated rooms, heated bathroom floors, environmentally friendly toiletries, a nice little hot tub (perfect for relaxing in after a hard day of wine tasting), and excellent breakfasts - something different every day with house made pastries and marmalade! There's also complimentary tea, coffee and house made chai that you can help yourself to through the day, complimentary wine in the evenings, and a selection of DVDs that you can watch in your room.

What really made our stay great though was the people - everyone at the front desk, and those who served breakfast were warm and friendly, genuinely interested and full of great recommendations about which wineries and restaurants to visit. They also helped us to book tables and tours without us even needing to ask. One evening the hotel organised a complimentary tasting from one of the local wineries, which was a great opportunity to meet a local wine maker and talk to fellow guests. Overall we had a wonderful experience and would definitely return.
