If your shopping the outlets or just traveling US 101 and do not want fast food, try Sandy's. This little find is no more than 500 feet off the US 101 on the Monterey Road exit, just one exit South of the outlets.
This restaurant changed hands last March but the chef stayed on and the food and service are very good. The decor was improved slightly in the transition and service has stayed consistently very good as well. Sandy's is basically a diner with booth & counter seating and is a favorite with locals. We have eaten here several times and every time we were there most of the patrons were greeted by name. The servers also make you feel like a local. The menu is varied with lots of choices that will please most everyone. Breakfast is especially rewarding with all kinds of egg dishes, many with a mexican flare, pancakes & waffles. Dishes are very generous in their portion size.
There is ample parking and sparkling restrooms. But most of all this is a great alternative to the fast food choices at the outlets and it is as close to home cooking you'll get traveling the US 101 in Gilroy.
