There was no appointment necessary, no tour, just a tasting of excellent wines and a cute little retail store to buy a few great wine related things. We had free passes from our b&b, and we ended up ordering a case because the wine is spectacular. This winery is worth the drive.

Due to its proximity (just across Highway 101 from Coppola), be sure to visit Clos du Bois for tasting if you are planning on visiting Coppola. The tasting room at Clos du Bois is airy and sunny, as are the hosts behind the counter who do the pouring. They all are friendly and informative, but Tyler is a standout! He gives excellent customer service and has a knowledge about each varietal and vintage that is encyclopedic. I have been a member of the wine club for about a year and a half, and even though my partner and I visit the winery only every three months or so to pick up our shipments (we live locally), he always remembers us. I have enjoyed Clos du Bois chardonnay for 30 years, but their red varietals are all excellent. Another good reason to visit Clos du Bois, especially if you enjoy their wines, is that their "black label" wines are available for tasting and sale ONLY at the winery, or through their wine club. These are some of their best. HINT: if you prefer visiting tasting rooms during quieter times, be sure to visit Clos du Bois on the weekdays. It is much less noisy and hectic, and thus the service is more attentive and personalized than Coppola next door (of which I am also a wine club member). We visited the tasting room recently with an out-of-town guest from Portland, Oregon (somebody who 35 years ago was in the wine and food service professions), and she was very impressed with both the wines and the service in the tasting room, which is really saying something!

This amazing winery is so well balanced in it's concern for nature, wine making and hosting guests!
First - when you arrive you will notice the weel taken care of facilities. Solar energy panels everywhere! Impressive!
Second: The team hosting your wine tasting is personal, friendly and of course generous! No mater if you are a rookie in wine or an expert, they will adjust and serve you in a way that honors you.
Third: This all shows in the wine. Tremendous wines from all kinds of varietals. If you are bored with the usual, CbB will take you to a new level.

Enjoy :)

We just left this winery after our third visit in two years and had to write a review immediately. This was our first winery stop of this trip and I doubt we'll top it. We became wine club members on our first visit in Oct 2011 and have not had a bad Clos du Bois wine, we pretty much love all of them. But after this visit, we will be club members for a loooong time. Tyler waited on us and he was awesome!! So friendly, charismatic and knowledgeable, Clos du Bois is lucky to have him. He got our trip off to a great start and we happily made a sizeable purchase to take home. People really make all the difference, we so appreciate a friendly and fun experience at a winery. Can't wait for our next visit!

To the owners of Clos Du Bois. Don't ever let George slip through your fingers!

We visited 9 wineries/tasting rooms on our visit to Sonoma and Napa. George was in a league of his own when it came to personal service.
The formidable list of paltable wines was bested only by George's knowledge and sizzling reparte. In particular, I appreciated the time he took to tailor a product to our own individual tastes.
On a trip where space and duty-free allowance was at a premium, Clos Du Bois filled two of the six slots for wine that we took back with us. This is wholly due to George's influence.
I truly enjoy meeting folk who not only take pride in their work, but also have that enviable talent of enjoying what they do.

Thanks again George. Take care.

PS. For the record. Our choices were the North Coast Chardonnay, and the Marlstone Bordeaux. The Chardonnays I have sampled are too numerous to recall, so the ones that make it to my cellar are always well-above-average. The Bordeaux was a pleasant little surprise!!
