Homewood Suites by Hilton Anaheim-Main Gate Area
Ranked #8 of 19 Hotels in Garden Grove

Our family of 5 stayed at the Homewood for 4 nights after moving out from next door at the Marriott Suites (see separate review).

We found the Homewood to be excellent value for money at $119 per night inclusive of room, breakfast, dinner and internet access.

The rooms are okay (although not, admittedly, as nice as the Marriott's) but the financial saving and pleasantness of staff across the board - front desk & dining room in particular - really make the Homewood a sure bet.

One word of warning though, take care at breakfast around the waffle makers - it's a zoo. Unless you're a big fan of them (I'm not but my kids are) give them a miss.

Well my husband was home from Iraq on r/r and we stayed at the Homewood Suites for a week 5/13/06 - 5/20/06 going to Disneyland,Cali Adventure Park and Universal Studios Hollywood, overall our stay was very good the breakfast was great according to my hubby and two children i ate it once and it was good, eggs potatoes, waffles, ham, bacon, the dining area is very nice and clean, the front desk staff are very freindly, the grounds are full of foliage and nicely manicured lawns, and the managers reception was great they have a different meal for each night mon-thurs. asian nights, italian nights..etc we fully took advantage of the free internet service and the shuttle to Disney ran on time every 20 minutes.

My problem with this hotel was the cleaniness... our room was clean upon arrival but during our stay, the housekeeping service lacked in their jobs horribly, dishes weren`t washed, carpet was not vacuumed, toilet paper not replaced, tub not cleaned, used wash clothes left in bathroom, and only two wash clothes given a day for a family of 4 which became aggravating to have to call down for more wash clothes everyday, we came back one night and the girls pullout couch hadn`t been put away they just threw the blanket and sheets on top of it,it was a pretty lazy cleaning effort. other than that our stay was really great they just need to stay on top of their housekeeping staff.

My husband and I and our four children stayed here on our trip to Disneyland. We stayed for 5 days. We can't say enough about this hotel. Front desk staff were very friendly and responded quickly to any requests that we made. They also let us check in 3 hours early.

We loved the room. It had a full size fridge along with a diswasher and stove top. The kitchen was also equipted with utinsels, pots, pans, plates, bowels and glasses. The maid service was great. We left all our dishes in the sink including our sippy cups and came home to all our dishes done!!!! We liked how the bedroom was seperate from the living area.

There is a huge breakfast buffet every morning. It had eggs, sausage, cereal, pastries, bagels, and waffles. The manager reception was nice as well, Italian, Mexican, fried chicken, and Aisan were served to us. They post a menu on your fridge so you know what they are serving.

There is a Target across the street . There is also a Joe's Crabshack, Outback, and Red Robin across the parking lot. There is also a Starbuck right next door. We used the ART bus to Disneyland everyday. It came every twenty minutes.

We will stay here the next time we go to Disneyland!!!

Can't say enough good things about the Homewood Suites. This is the second time we have stayed there and from the excellent breakfast in the morning to the complimentary manager's reception in the evening, everything was great. You might pay a little more than other area hotels, but the money you save on dining out can't be compared. I highly recommend this hotel and it is my choice of hotels in the Anaheim area.

Stayed one night (2 May 2006). I think this hotel would be great for families with children because of all the free value added services provided. The large suites are complete with kitchenettes, seperate living area, bathroom and bedroom. Parking is free (compared to the Hyatt across the street which is $14 daily), free internet (again, Hyatt offers internet access at $10 a day), and local calls are .50 each (most hotels in this area charge $1 or less). A very nice free breakfast is provided to include eggs, bacon, waffles, pastries, cereal, ect. as well as a free evening food event. The front desk crew was outstanding, super friendly and very customer service oriented. I did have a problem with room cleanliness but suspect it may have been an isolated case. The hotel did seem somewhat dated and the room lighting (particularly the bathroom) was dim. I did communicate some feedback to the manager, which he seemed to appreciate. He wanted to make it right but I had already made up my mind to check out. I'd recommend this hotel for families with children visiting Disneyland for all the value added services if they don't mind taking a shuttle bus. However, for govt or business travelers, I'd recommend the Hilton Garden Inn a block away.

Stayed for 6 nights with my 9 yr old during her spring break. Well worth the money & here's why:

-Check in: Friendly staff, quick check in, was able to check in one hour early

-The room: comfortable 1 bdrm suite, well stocked, 2 t.v.'s/one with Nintendo; just wish the bathroom door didn't open into the bdrm - when the bdrm door is opened, both doors are blocking path around vanity area; air cond/heater are quiet, though the kitchen fan is very loud if you're cooking; fifth floor facing Disney - on a clear night we could see the fireworks

-Rest of hotel: hallway to the rooms were stuffy (maybe saving energy-understandable); one elevator on each end of hotel (east & west wing) - we eventually used stairs to go down & elevator up (fifth floor); used the pool once on a hot day - water was too cold for our liking but got used to it & stayed in about an hour; pool towels are small though

-Food: Breakfast (daily) - scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon or ham, potatoes or biscuits, small muffins, bread for toast, bagels & english muffins, fresh fruit, yogurt, make-your-own waffle station (note: remember to flip the iron after pouring batter to start timer - directions are there but some people don't read them for whatever reason-LOL)
Dinner (manager's reception): one night: grilled chicken breast that you can make sandwiches with; another was Pasta night; the night they had fried chicken - OH MY - talk about hungry people, it was going sooo fast (they refill continuously) because it was very delicious; chocolate cake & carrot cake; soda fountain, coffee, tea

-Other conveniences: Target & a 99 cent store across the street (bottled waters & soda); Starbucks next door; shuttle to Disney also next door at Marriott; Outback, Red Robin & Joe's Crab Shack restaurants across from hotel

Overall, I would love to stay here again on long trips like this, My daughter loved it, too!!

Just to be fair I will start by sharing what worked for us at this hotel. The rooms are a good size, we had the one bedroom suite with 2 queens, sofa bed and kitchenette. The room was quiet with the exception of some traffic noise and firework noise in the evenings. Otherwise quiet. Big towels and plenty of them. Kitchen is well equipped. Breakfast is provided daily with a good selection, plenty of tables and room to eat. Trays are available to carry back to your room. Dinner is served Monday -Thursday nights and was very conveniant. Swimming pool is one of the nicer ones we have seen in the area with towels provided. We were given a free crib for our five night stay. There is a grocery shopping service that was very conveniant however a bit slow since it took nearly twenty four hours to get our order.

Plenty of parking.
Quest laundry was conveniant for us.
Plenty of shopping and resturants nearby.

Now the part that didn't work for us. The beds are terrible, absolutely worst we have ever slept on. No way to get comfortable as they are very soft and lumpy, well worn. Pillows are just as bad and we could not find a way to fold them to support our neck in any kind of comfort. Didn't get much sleep at all during our stay.

Room was dirty, first thing I noticed upon entering was the dirty handprints on the tables, then a drip on the dishwasher front and on the wallpaper in the bathroom. None of this was cleaned during our stay. One day we didn't get any maid service at all despite her promise to come back. Housekeeping requests were answered very slowly, took several reminder calls. Same with the front desk, would promise to call back and hours later I would call and finally get an answer.

Rear doors did not always respond to the room key cards. Window was missing from the hall but replaced during our stay. No need for a secure door LOL.

We are far from picky but have had better stays at cheaper properties nearby like the Best Western Raffles and Portifino.

So if you can put up with poor housekeeping and terrible beds you may find the meals and pool to be fair compensation. In our case we will stay elsewhere and make other plans for our meals.
