We stayed one night and loved it! It is exactly what we were looking for on our road trip. It is not fancy but the room was clean and so was the bathroom/shower and the rates cannot be beat. Every other place around was twice the price and not any nicer. Staff was great! Oh, and the pool was clean and perfect for kids and toddlers as there is a large shallow section. It's located right in the middle of town and you can walk to all the shops. Only complaint was not about the motel but the Chinese restaurant around the corner, the Cadillac Wok. Over priced and HORRIBLE! We did not need carry out boxes that's for sure. The rice was half scrambled eggs, the beef was all gristle, and the roll was greasy but still the best thing we tasted. And we are not real picky when it comes to Chinese, we often eat Panda and it's ten times better than that place.

A great place. The reception desk area was amazing. Really cool. The lady on the desk was pleasant and friendly, sorting out a room instantly to suit us. For $44 you can't go wrong. This place is set back off Redwood Drive and from an Englishman's point of view, is just the style of Californian Motel you'd expect to find. For the money - 10/10.

Room Tip: Room 20 is next to reception & next to the Laundry room.

We ended up here as it was the only option when we were stranded in garberville. Pool was okay and there was organic in room coffee but everything else was gross. Smoking room was the only one left and it reeked, even the linens smelled of cigarettes. Linoleum in the bathroom was pulled away from the wall and molding by the tub. Staff was polite but like nearly all businesses in this town, didn't let us use the restroom at check out. I recommend avoiding this town if possible and certainly this establishment.

Arrived in town late afternoon without a reservation -- drove up and down looking at motels and finally settled here -- glad we did! A professional operation; seems family-run. Location back from the main drag gives a nice feeling of security. Not the fanciest or most modern place, so if you need that, look elsewhere. Right in the middle of downtown; easy walk for dinner. One quirk: you are issued a TV remote with your room key.

Likes: I gave it a 2 because the customer service was friendly, it was cheap and it was off the road where it was quiet.

Dislikes: Keep your shoes on in this motel. Wear shower slippers too. Yes, there are dead creepy crawlies everywhere that haven't been removed. It has an old TV style wall remote.

Room Tip: Choose a room in the back of the office or down below on the right hand side of the pool. It's...

If you are reading this...YOU are a good and thoughtful traveler so take heed. NO! NO! to the Sherwood Forest Motel, Garberville, California It is on Route 101 - in the heart of the grand Redwood forest and trail. We had been on the road from early morning and the spectacular scenery took a lot of our energy. We were tired at 7 pm. The Best Western across the street was sold out.. So we went across the street and just signed in not bothering to "check the room" and were very disappointed. The Sherwood Forest Motel was in times past a nice place to stay. Not anymore. It is very tired. The room was dirty. We striped the beds and used our own traveling blankets and pillows. It was very warm outside but when turning the AC - the smell was, well, it was YUK!! So open the windows to air the room out...BUT no screens on any of the windows. The carpet was spotted and dirty. We had been on the road on our magnificent road trip for 19 days and THIS was by far the worst. Sad in a way… it just does not have to be this way.

Room Tip: Even if you are as tired as we were... go up the street there are other nice places to stay..

We apparently arrived with the rodeo and had to find a place. The price was right but when we opened the door the carpet freshener (?) was so strong we opened all the windows to air out the room. Unfortunately there were no screens. The room appeared clean enough but the place definately needs a facelift. The staff were very nice and helpful.
