The restaurant and bar was closed by its previous owners in early 2012 due to rumors of both financial problems and management conflicts -- but it has been purchased by two brothers from the Bay Area who have a combined 60+ years of food service and fine dining and catering experience between them, including two successful eateries in the South Bay area and the operation of a restaurant in a Hyatt Regency. They have announced their intention to re-open Brewster's in mid-May 2012 with revised menu options for breakfast, lunch and dinner service -- as well as special events to be held in the expansive upstairs area. Accordingly -- only three stars are awarded to coincide with this review/notice for ambition to re-open a failed business until such time as we get a chance to check out the new offerings once the venue reopens. Let's hope that this time around the new owners are able to maintain an establishment where the quality of the food and service match the surrounding of a very cool eating environment that the Brewster Building affords.

Let's face it: there aren't a lot of culinary choices in Galt let alone a place where you can get a good beer AND some good food. That said, Brewster's continues to disappoint. First, they pulled a fantastic beer that they had (Moose Drool). It was the main reason that I went to Brewster's at least 1-2 times a week. Second, they keep taking the good food off the menu. Like I said, for Galt it's a nice addition, but just don't get used to anything being there when you return. Sadly, for me and my friends, it may be worth the trip to Elk Grove or Sacramento instead of the constant disappointment.

This restaurant, which opened in the Spring 2011, is located in the historical 1868 Brewster Building, in an area of downtown Galt which has seen substantial redevelopment dollars invested in the past 3 years. The restaurant definitely has made an effort to provide an upscale option to a local dining scene which has been sorely lacking despite having some very good options for ethnic cuisine available. Brewster's menu focuses on what would probably qualify classification as "California Cuisine" revolving around mainly pizza, pasta, soups, salads, hamburgers, chicken and steak. Service and presentation elevate good quality food, and the level of culinary spirit and detailing should be enhanced as the place grows in popularity. This is not to say it isn't already drawing a robust and steady crowd -- especially on weekend nights. On every visit so far we have had a minimum of 30 minutes wait -- so reservations would be recommended in the event you don't wish to spend any time in the bar area -- which is probably one of the architectural highlights of the entire restaurant. The woodwork and marble are pretty grand. As you enter the place you cross a threshhold of a glass floor which allows you to see the very cool wine cellar below. The wine list is extensive and draws mainly from California vintages and local wineries which should not disappoint. There is a separate upstairs area for private functions available. They also have a great outdoor patio area with a fountain, which is a favored place to dine since it can become very warm inside he building when the place is full. The patio area, although enclosed, is NOT dog-friendly, perhaps a notable miss for some folks especially during the lunch service -- and the owners might consider a reconsideration of that policy if not barred by local codes. Another note is that a gratis salad or soup and bread might also be considered to accompany the entrees which for the money seem calling out for a little more enhanced value. All-in-all, Brewster's is probably the best Galt has to offer on a local level without driving 10 miles in any direction for a upscale dining experience.

I've been to Brewsters a few times, in my experienced the food is over priced. It's is really hot inside the restaurant especially when the sun is blasting through the single pane front windows. The outside sitting was very dirty, with cigarette ashes on the ground and on the tables.
