Whenever I travel to Orange County for business, I always make it a point to visit Steamers. By far, it is the best place for live jazz in Orange County.
When you find the place, it does not look like much as it a one of a row of storefronts. When you come in you see that it is a long narrow room with the stage in the right back corner. There is a long bar to you left as you walk in and then a few rows of tables opposite the stage. The rest of the tables are along the wall opposite the bar.
Make it a point to make a reservation as that gets you a better chance to sit opposite the stage and a closer view to the action. Do not be surprised about possibly sharing a table with others, but that is half the fun of coming here is that you meet other people that are there just for the music.
Terence Love, the owner, does a terrific job of booking great artists to perform there. Several of them have recorded live CDs while performing there. I have a few of those CDs and it is a treat to see those same artists performing there again and again.
The food is good. My favorite is the cajun gumbo. There is a decent selection of beers available as well. (Gotta have an Anchor Steam while at Steamers!)
This is a real live jazz club with everyone there to hear the music and watch the great musicians.
