“Great Jazz with Horrible Seating”
Reviewed August 26, 2011

This intimate club gets great artists but without making a reservation a month in advance, you won't have a good seat toward the front. This place is long and narrow and they make customers sit with other people to fill tables. If you're not so lucky, you're seated next to a wall with columns which block your view of the stage. The food is average so eat before you go. We saw Graham Dechter for only $15 and the following night Poncho Sanchez for the same price which isn't bad. I wouldn't go back unless I was sitting up closer to the stage. However, they do have a large screen and they say the second show isn't as full,

“Great place to hear and see live jazz!”
Reviewed October 3, 2010

Whenever I travel to Orange County for business, I always make it a point to visit Steamers. By far, it is the best place for live jazz in Orange County.

When you find the place, it does not look like much as it a one of a row of storefronts. When you come in you see that it is a long narrow room with the stage in the right back corner. There is a long bar to you left as you walk in and then a few rows of tables opposite the stage. The rest of the tables are along the wall opposite the bar.

Make it a point to make a reservation as that gets you a better chance to sit opposite the stage and a closer view to the action. Do not be surprised about possibly sharing a table with others, but that is half the fun of coming here is that you meet other people that are there just for the music.

Terence Love, the owner, does a terrific job of booking great artists to perform there. Several of them have recorded live CDs while performing there. I have a few of those CDs and it is a treat to see those same artists performing there again and again.

The food is good. My favorite is the cajun gumbo. There is a decent selection of beers available as well. (Gotta have an Anchor Steam while at Steamers!)

This is a real live jazz club with everyone there to hear the music and watch the great musicians.

“Come for the Jazz, not the food”
Reviewed March 16, 2009

You come here for the great straight-ahead Jazz, not for the food or drinks. Service is really slow, the food comes out lukewarm, but the Jazz is HOT. You need reservations, and will probably share a table with fellow jazz fans, but that adds to the experience. Very cool group.

Thank goodness we have this place, it saves us from going to LA.
