I reserved the larger caboose for my husband's 60th birthday when you order the caboose you must begin the ride in Sunol. Before the event I found the staff very helpful. They responded to all my questions within a few days.

On the day of the event, we were given the block of tickets and not asked to pay until after the event. I reserved the 12:30 train, and was able to bring sandwiches and drinks on the ride. There was a small table and counter to place these items easily.

Afterwards the group gathered at the picnic tables next door to take a group picture.

A relaxing a fun Sunday adventure!

Loved the ride, as well as the wine and cheese tastes. I did think visitors probably thought they were in Livermore for all the talk about it, but this was the Fremont Niles Canyon!

Although it's a bit pricey, we took our kids on the Train of Lights ride at Christmastime. The lines are long so you have to get there early and wait in the cold, but once you're on the train there's plenty of seating. The train has an eclectic mix of cars from different eras and of different styles, so each car is almost it's own experience. On board there's some concessions that serve wintry treats for kids (cookies, candy, hot chocolate, etc.), and a couple of distinguished riders, Mr. and Mrs. Claus, come along on the ride to help add to the holiday experience. Parents of small children should note that the train runs late into the evening, so many younger children will probably end up sleeping through much of the ride.

We did the Twighlight Train ride around Christmas time a few years ago with a Santa Visit, cookies and Coco and everyone enjoyed it immensely.

There were two ticket options, covered trains and uncovered ones. I recommend the covered ones with amenities as it get very cold in the evening. You do pay $40.00 per person, but it's worth it.

The next train ride was on the last weekend of April. More casual and we brought our own snacks and drinks. A lot of fun and less than $10/person.

Fun outing to take the kids on a train. Inexpensive way to spend a family afternoon together. Spend some time in Sunol or Niles as well. With all of the SF Bay Area so built up it is nice to go back in time and spend some time in a really small town.
