“Wonderful place for a quick lunch”

Shin Sen Gumi Robata & Yakitori
Restaurant details
Reviewed January 15, 2013 via mobile

Friends are always skeptical when I take them to Shin Sen Gumi. They always imagine that it will be an overpriced Top Ramen product. Every time they are happily surprised that this is not the case.

It is a small place, best suited for small parties (2-3). Don't come expecting much atmosphere or a show. Since the place is so small the workers try to get people in and out quickly. There is usually a long wait time in the evenings but I have found it mostly deserted during the lunch hours.

They have other food besides ramen but I always find myself eating that with a side of gyoza. It is incredibly filling, tasty, and is fairly priced. Definitely a place worth trying at least once.

warning: this is not the place you come for parties or with a large group. The restaurant is tiny, but they make one of the best ramen in LA / Orange County.

I think some of the reviewers got this mixed up with the Shin Se Gumi Yakitori resturant next door. They are adjacent to each other but one does strictly ramen and the other does ramen during lunch, but yakitori bbq skewers at dinner. This one is ramen.

There's about 10 tables and counter space, and the place gets packed about an hour after opening. Its not super cheap. A ramen bowl with a medley of topping can set you back $10-15, especially if you get refills on noodles. You get to pick how you want your noodles, how you want your broth, and what extras you want.

There's locations all over OC and LA, the original is in Gardena, and its also tiny.

Good Happy Hour menu on weekdays ( M-Thu)
Free cabbage salad.
Always ask if you want your beef rare.
If you don't it will be served as overcooked.

Friendly service here The manager and wait staff will greet you by name if you are a regular customer. Excellent food but always a wait. Our favorites: Flat meat, chicken balls, and bacon wrapped tomatoes. Use the yuzu paste on the beef! If you don't know what yuzu is, ask your server.

They are known for their miso raemen however I was not a fan. The service is great. This is another popular lunch spot try to get there early. My friends really like this spit, however I don't understand the hype.
