Enjoyed a fabulous meal here. We had enrolled in a future cooking class elsewhere, taught by Chef and educator Haley Nguyen who's coincedentally the owner of this restaurant, so we decided to dine at her restaurant prior to the class. After finding it, tucked away in a corner of a nondescript shopping center, we were not disappointed. The restaurant's atmosphere was lovely, casual and upbeat, with pleasant background music playing, and several other tables were filled this Saturday night. The food was AMAZING though. For apps, we enjoyed Com chay thit nuong/Crispy rice and grilled pork (very interesting and different) and Goi hoa chuoi/Banana blossom salad with shrimp and pork in a beautiful dressing. For our mains, we enjoyed Ca chien xoai xanh/Orange Roughy filet w/a green mango sauce and Bo luc lac/Sauteed Lemongrass filet mignon cubes (with yam fries). It was unfortunate that there were only two of us, as we would have liked to try several other dishes that sounded great too. The wine BTG list was simple but it had all the bases covered, and we enjoyed wine and beer with our dinner. The food was pricier than other local Vietnamese restaurants, but it was definitely a notch up from the usual - though still reasonable and fairly priced. The presentation of the food was wonderful, clearly all the ingredients were very fresh, the server very helpful, and we loved everything we tried. Several weeks later, we had the opportunity then to learn from Chef Nguyen in a class where we made homemade curries, and she was very engagaging and clearly a wonderful chef, and we look forward to dining again at Xanh (I believe it means "green" in Vietnamese) . Unfortunately the location of the restaurant is the only drawback. I hope it's successful despite the location, and I know if it was located in a more accessible and/or trendy area, surely others would find it and love it too...so seek it out and you'll be glad you did!
