Stayed 1 night at this Ft. Bragg motel - Avoided the 2 night requirement at over-priced Mendocino... Ft.Bragg has so much to offer from truly old antiques to local brew pub and more, the fishing community of Noyo. Surf Motel is at the heart of it - clean, accepted pets without an inquisition or unreasonable over charges. A dog run and hose area too.

I travel to Ft Bragg 2x/month and after trying several places, I stay at the Surf. They gave me a great rate, the same room each time and remember me! It is quiet and a good location for me.
Clean and basic with a continental breakfast.

We were on a tour of Northern California and of all the nice places we stayed Fort Bragg was the best.

We actually chose to visit Fort Bragg despite the review in our copy of the Rough Guide, which appeared to have been written by an out-an-out snob, and described Fort Bragg as being permanently engulfed in smoke from the lumber mills. Nothing could be further from the truth. A smart town with expensive restaurants and budget diners on the outskirts.

Nothing is far away and we could certainly live there. If you're a certain age and like rock music from the 60s-80s check out the local radio station The Coast KOZT Brilliant!

As for the Surf motel, it was fine. On the outskirts which makes it slightly closer to Mendocino 10 miles away. All the usual facilities and a free transfer to the skunk train!

The name is very fitting - beautiful plants and gardens cover the grounds. The hotel has a large number of long term construction teams which we were afraid would be a problem but they worked at night so we never heard them. Good basic hotel but ask for extra pillows - the ones on the bed are small and flat. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very basic with cereal and pastry.

Always dog-friendly..... Helpful staff.... computer access in the office/lounge area..... continental breakfast...fresh fruit, coffee, tea, juice, pastry, cereals..... very nice to start the day! Stayed in #158 and found it to be very quiet.... despite the fact there were many other dogs with owners staying on either side for the 6 days we were there. Wonderful large dog run...with potty pick-up bags... Gardens.....well.....Gardens Galore ...something always in full bloom every time I've stayed there. Very reasonably priced and the location could really not be better....right next to a wonderful Harvest Market with holistic foods etc.....and to the other side....across the street...a Mc Donald's for (shhhhhhhh.....I got hot apple pies and a cup of soft serve ice cream for a nite-time treat) Very handy indeed!! I don't think you'll be disappointed! Mr. and Mrs. Reddy, Karen, and Amanda are ready to help you with just about anything you need....there's even a free shuttle bus for various destinations!

We had two adjoining rooms; one with king bed and one with 2 queens. It was basic, yet clean. Beds and pillows were comfortable. Staff was very nice. Great for mobility-impaired people since you can park right by your room; however, this is also a drawback when the rooms on either side are filled with people who are up at 5 am and outside talking loudly and opening and closing car and truck doors repeatedly. The rooms have no air conditoning, so we had our windows open. With quite a few vacant rooms, I'm not sure why the motel staff pack everyone staying there into a small location except for their own benefit. It certainly wasn't to ours! The "continental breakfast" was pretty awful but they did have fresh bananas. There is a McDonalds right across the street. If you aren't subjected to rude neighbors and you don't mind not being able to see the water, this is a fine place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask to be as far away from other guests as possible.
