“Charming well-run B & B”
Reviewed February 24, 2011

Spent two nights in the room known as "The Quilt." It's decorated in a cutesy countryish style as shown on the website. Very comfortable. Medium-firm queen-sized bed. Even though the house is on the main street there was no noticeable traffic noise. Fort Bragg is very quiet in February. The ladies who own and operate the place are charming and helpful. Breakfast was good, featuring souffles, sausages and fresh fruit. Good value at $115 per night before taxes, and a discount for cash which effectively cancels out the taxes. The dining room ceiling could do with some attention. I recommend this B & B enthusiastically as an economical alternative to staying in Mendocino.

We just returned from an absolutely lovely stay at the Atrium. My birthday was on Thanksgiving, so we headed up to Fort Bragg and Mendocino for a few days before the holiday weekend. I found the Atrium on Trip Advisor, and it completely lived up to my expectations.

The location is right in downtown Fort Bragg within walking distance to shops, restaurants, and Glass Beach. The house itself is actually two houses connected by a glass atrium that I'm sure is very lovely in the summer. Of course, when we were staying the high was 45 degrees each day so we stayed cozy indoors.

The Victorian house has enough original touches (lights, floors, stained glass windows) to be charming, but still feels new enough so things aren't cheesy or kitschy. We stayed in the Rendezvous, which is right in front of the house. If you are opposed to Toile in any way, this is not the room for you. The lighting was great, the room was cozy, and the bed was ridiculously comfortable. As previous reviewers have noted, this room does face the road and is also immediately above the parlor downstairs. We discovered that there is only road noise during the day (when we checked in and right after we woke up in the morning) and it is dead quiet at night! It is true, you can hear muffled sounds in the parlor below during breakfast, but it did not disturb us at all.

The breakfast was great! I have some food sensitivities and could not eat the egg dish being served. Mary kindly made me scrambled eggs each morning. Other treats included pumpkin bred, poached pears, bacon, sausage, and tons of fresh fruit. It was much nicer than I anticipated. There was also always wine in the afternoon and a big plate of cookies. There were also wine glasses and chocolates in our room at all times.

I didn't meet Gail, but Mary was absolutely wonderful. She was attentive and helpful without being intrusive. After our first morning we left for a brief while and when we returned I was shocked to find our bed made and fresh towels in the bathroom. I have no idea how she made up our room so quickly!
There was a cute "Happy Birthday" banner in our room upon arrival as well as a little birthday cake on our last night there. These touches were very sweet and really made my birthday special.

The price was right for sure (a Fall special of $100 per night). I would definitely stay here again. I may try a different room, but I certainly wouldn't mind the Rendezvous again!

The Atrium is two large Victorians joined together by a large sheltered garden with comfortable and charming seating arrangements and lush with plants and flowers. Mary and Gail are incredibly friendly and make you feel at home. The breakfast in the morning (not too early-8:30 to 10:30 with coffee and tea by 7:30) is included and it seems for the quality it should be extra! The egg and tomato casserole was just the start to toast, fruit salad, sausages and scones. The coffee and orange juice was an added plus with everything being organic and locally grown. My fiance and I stayed in the Victorian Valentine (Victoriana) which was a fantastic room with a great price tag. The room has a fireplace, pillowtop bed, private bath and two large windows facing the ocean. It also has a small television/dvd player with dvds available downstairs in the dining room. We agreed it was the best night's sleep. The location is great too as you easily walk the two blocks to the main drag where all the shops and restaurants are or walk to the ocean two blocks in that direction. The parking around back is great too as you can park here before and after check-in. If we could have stayed longer than the weekend, we definitely would have!

The Atrium is right on Highway 1, but our room (which faced the road) was so quiet we had no difficulty sleeping on the extra-soft king size bed. There is plenty of off-street parking behind the inn, which was a convenience. It's within easy walking distance of downtown, but not in the center of it. The innkeepers are friendly and helpful; they scoured the place for a walking-tour guide to town, and had excellent advice on places to visit and to eat at. The breakfasts were wonderful, and they had a pot of coffee ready for our in-room wakeup each morning. Top recommendation.

My wife and i stayed a The Atrium one night on our way down the coast to San Francisco.

Mary, a very gracious host, welcomed us when we checked in and invited us to join her for a glass of wine before we toured Fort Bragg. The room was wonderful and the breakfast was excellent.

Mary's restaurant recommendation for dinner was perfect. Silvers at the Wharf had excellent, fresh seafood.

The Atrium is a charming B&B, ideally located near restaurants, shops, and Glass Beach. The rooms all have an individual twist, with coordinated decor giving each its own feel and ambience. We stayed in the Garden Room, which was spacious, comfortable and cosy. The owner was extremely welcoming, friendly and chatty, and we were spoilt (as are all guests) with a glass of wine on arrival and a delicious home-cooked breakfast in the morning. Considering the quality of the rooms and service as well as its location, The Atrium represents great value-for-money. We had a great stay and were just sorry that we only had one night booked.

The Atrium is a really pleasant B&B, pretty and comfortable but not over the top like a few places I've stayed. We enjoyed our stay in the Fort Bragg area, the Atrium made a good base and at night it was only a short walk to a variety of restaurants. What really made our stay was the warmth of the welcome (friendly and helpful but not obtrusive) and the excellent breakfast (and afternoon cookies).
