“Great BBQ. Really?”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

We gave Q a try based on the many favorable reviews posted on Trip Advisor and were generally disappointed. We were prepared for the fact it's pretty much a shack sitting next to Highway 1, and boy is it. The tables and floor were dirty. You order at the counter. Staff was just short of indifferent, impatient and totally unhelpful. The food came out quickly, but we had imagined the oysters we ordered as an appetizer might come out first. They didn't and since the "dinning room" was so cold it didn't take long for the food to also turn cold. The good news is that everything was prepared well, the sides we had, baked beans, cornbread, and coleslaw were all good, but for BBQ it should be all about the meat. I'm certain that absent the sauce, in a blind tasting you wouldn't guess anything had been BBQed. Grilled maybe, but the flavor of smoke was totally absent. The sauces they offered were very good, but good sauce does not good BBQ make. When the highlight of a meal are the side dishes, I say this was not great BBQ.

“Great barbecue and nothing else”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

We were staying at a hotel close by. We were walking by and decided to check it out. It was the best decision. Great place. We ordered pork ribs and pulled pork sandwich. Just great. Soft and moist. Very tasty. No ambiance but it is not the point.

“Savory and Delicious”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

This place is all about the Q, not the ambiance!
For decades this was a shack that very few folks stopped at ... next to a drive-by coffee place. Then it was taken over by local restaurateurs (who also run the Beaujolais, one of Mendocino's premiere eateries), enlarged a little, a porch enclosed, the smokers installed ... and Wow! what a change.
You'll notice that lots of out-of-towners stop by: the place is easy to find, just before the Noyo Bridge. Out of respect (!?) for the MacDonalds next door, they don't do burgers ... but they do ribs! and blackened fresh local-caught fish, and tasty sides.
You don't pay for any ambiance, and the folks who run this place know how important the ingredients are. No frills in the presentation either: plastic baskets. But after that first amazing bite, nobody cares.

“EXCEPTIONAL”

In a town with little to offer...this place was FABULOUS for any town. LOVED it. Smoked salmon was delicious and pulled pork equally as great. Staff very friendly!

“Quality BBQ”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

I had driven by this place on several visits to the Mendocino coast and never stopped. It looks like a random shack from the outside...which really is perfect for a BBQ place!
We went with a large group and ordered almost one of everything on the menu....EVERYTHING was great! The pork back ribs were the most raved about. All sides were great, especially the mac and cheese! The sauces were all great, my fave was the Memphis sweet.
Overall, this is a great and causal place to eat at the coast and enjoy some real food without the pretentious, overpriced tourist trap experience.
