Owner description: Fort Bragg, CA, has the highest concentration of sea glass in the world. Founded by Capt. Cass Forrington, a retired former deep sea captain, who scours Fort Bragg’s three world famous glass beaches for their rare and beautiful treasures, the Sea Glass Museum is the world’s largest permanent sea glass display with over 3,000 artifacts on display. The Sea Glass Museum is one of the most popular and beautiful attractions on the Mendocino coast and is a must see for children of all ages! Even grumpy faces leave the museum smiling. Be sure to stop in before visiting the beaches to get directions to the best sea glass locations, not only in Fort Bragg, but all along the Mendocino coast.

The Sea Glass museum is just outside Fort Bragg (south). Capt Cass is friendly and the museum has a nice display of Sea Glass collected at Sea Glass Beach.

The word "Museum" is used very loosely here. More of a store with some pieces of sea glass for interest. The owner-proprietor was unfriendly and curt. Jewelry is overpriced--not terribly well-made and not artistically done when compared with other pieces I have seen. If you are an absolute neophyte when it comes to sea glass, go and get a taste. If you want more knowledge and a better understanding of this hobby, this "museum" won't be too helpful. You would do better consulting some of the good books on sea glass that have been published.

Very interesting shop and Museum. Be sure to look at the chart for the colors to search for at Glass Beach.

It is inside a quaint house so it won't take long to visit it. There are wonderful displays of sea glass in all colors from the local beach. From that they have made jewelry, earrings, bracelets and necklaces to purchase at reasonable prices. We met the sea captain. There is a lot of history about how sea glass came about during the 60s and 70s so if you are from Northern California it would be an interesting bit of nostalgia. Once you've visited you wouldn't necessarily need to return. We would like to see the Sea Glass Beach which we didn't on this trip. They also create unique creatures out of all different seashells and we did purchase 2 of these.
