A bottle of tempranillo or their charbono with a picnic overlooking the Ft. Bragg coast, even with a little fog and wind can't be beat. I also enjoyed their Viogner and Rousanne.

Pulled into this Jewell on a trip up the coast to Redwood Forest to check out the wine tasting. Hostess was great in her presentation of some really good boutique wines. The view was to die for and we had packed our fruit, cheese, wine & bread to enjoy in perfect weather. Don't pass up this awesome setting & winery.

We stopped by the Pacific Star tasting room in Ft. Bragg on an impulse, after winding down four days of wine-tasting in the Sonoma and Anderson Valleys. We liked the laid back atmosphere and the very friendly and knowledgeable host, who had a great sense of humor. It was nice to taste, sitting at the small bar. We were not hurried. The wines were very good, and several of the blended reds were very reasonably priced. We enjoyed the experience, and both couples purchased some wine to have shipped back home. Their shipping charges are exceptionally reasonable, and did away with the need to take the wine to a shipper. After seeing the Powerpoint silde show at the tasting bar showing the winery, itself, we regretted not having driven another 12 miles to the winery. However, at that point we were in a bit of a time crunch. We are saving that for our next visit.

This is the only coastal winery in California, and a must if you enjoy wine, the coast, and have already made it as far as Fort Bragg. The grapes are grown a bit farther inland, but the tasting happens here for $5. There's a large fenced-in cliff-side picnic area which is a perfect bring-your-own picnic place. The views are fantastic. The only draw-back are the dog-owners which let their off-leash dogs run wild, which can interfere with the experience.

If you've made it to Fort Bragg and you appreciate wine and a coastal view, you have got to make the drive to Pacific Star Winery. It's been about 8 years since my last visit, only because I had moved to Colorado, but it is a beautiful location. The wines are good and the staff is pleasant. It is an overall enjoyable experience and they encourage you to walk the property. Great photo opportunities as well. Very peaceful area. They also offer some cheese and salami to purchase in the event you would like to picnic while you are there, as well as other wine related items for sale. I think their hours are 11-5 but call and/or check the website to be sure.
