It appears that the park is trying to limit foot traffic damage so there is a raised wooden walkway that guides you through the park. There is very limited shoreline access. The best part is the view of the ocean from the various 'lookout' points that have been built. I believe the park is seven miles (?) of coast but it appears that visitors are limited to the very small walkway area.

“Great beach”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

MacKerricher made us wish we still have our RV. Camping there was always so much fun. The beach is so easy to access and the boardwalk to the headlands was great.

“by my home”

This is an absolutely exquisite state park. The well maintained walkway that takes you out to the rocky point has everything from mysterious arching cypresses to vistas along the coast and close views of rock formation often covered by seals and visited by an amazing collection of sea birds. At low tide the tide pools are filled with a wide variety of sea life. The old logging road that runs along the sea for miles of MacKerricher's shoreline is wonderful for waling and biking. One very special thing about this park is that it allows free day use year round. My family has lived near MacKerricher park for over 40 years and we dearly love it.

If you want a easy walk along the North Coast ocean, then go to MacKerricher State Park. Wheelchair friendly and ease of path due to it being a boardwalk that takes you directly along the shoreline allowing great viewing.

Easy ocean access; large campsites. The ranger was quite helpful and the kids had fun climbing on the rocks
