My adult daughters and I met in Fort Bragg for a girls weekend. On top of our list of things to do was the Skunk Train ride. We chose to do the shorter ride because it was much more affordable than the trip from Willets. One hour was the perfect amount of time. We spent most of our time in the open middle car, standing along the edge. The weather was beautiful. There is a tiny snack bar and restroom in the first car. There is a roving musician playing a guitar and singing train songs. Folks sang along and the children danced. It was a great addition. The trip is narrated with historical facts, and points of interest are noted along the way. The train moves slowly and it is easy to move between cars. There are no seats in the open car, only in the two covered cars.

The Train Museum on the same property is free with the train ride and it is a must-see! Many model trains are running around a large room. It is set up like old time Fort Bragg and shows how the redwood logs were brought to the mills. There is a numbered itinerary that guides you through the room so you know what you are seeing. It is a wonderful display that also goes outside. There is a volunteer on site who is full of wonderful information if you have questions. Be sure to make this part of the Skunk Train experience. One engine in some of the photos, "Daisy" is herself on permanent display in the Laurel St Cafe across the street. We had coffee right next to the engine while we waited for our train trip.

The only disappointment is that there was a slide that took out a tunnel the train used to go through but that isn't a fault of anyone. The trip was a bit shorter due to the work being done on that area. Perhaps it will be opened up in the future. I highly recommend this trip.

The cost is listed as $25, but we actually paid $27 due to 8% tax which is noted on the ticket. There is no senior discount.

Sadly part of the track is not operational, so it’s a short trip. The entertainment was great! Otherwise not much of a ride

Our train ride was relaxing and enjoyable. We appreciated that they allowed our dogs on board (with a fee). The staff was friendly and polite. Our children enjoyed being able to sit indoors or be able to walk about in the open car. There is a small gift shop at the starting point. The Train ride was an enjoyable afternoon activity.

What a quaint adventure. Hearing the clickety-clack of an old train amongst redwood trees and sunshine was wonderful. Snacks were available onboard and the guitar player/singer added a special touch. We met people from Kansas and the UK onboard. Highly recommended.

I took my two daughters and their husbands on a mini vacation and this was one of our stops.
What a beautiful place, fun ride and great entertainment. Seats are comfortable. My favorite was the open car at the back.....although having seats on that car would be a great addition.
It was somewhat pricey and we even had to pay for my granddaughter, who was only 5 months old.
Other than the cost, it was a great time and we would recommend it.

Lovely experience. Learnt a lot about the Redwoods and some local history. Heritage railway stock. Nice gift shop and excellent model railway too. Above all, great staff!

We have taken our grandkids (3-7) on the Willits to Northspur ride twice in the past year, and both times the biggest hit with all of us was Greg Shindel, the guitar playing singer of every train song in existence. His enthusiasm and fun sound effects light up the whole ride, both out and back, and creates indelible happy memories for children and adults. Don’t miss him!

Great day out on the train through the forest - nice to be able to wander around the train with the open carriage and seated indoor carriages. The information given during the trip was excellent without being too intrusive. Definitely recommend this trip to all.
