Review of Skunk Train

Skunk Train
Ranked #1 of 7 Tours in Fort Bragg
More attraction details
Attraction details
Owner description: Trips departing from both Fort Bragg, CA and Willits, CA on the historic Redwood Route of Mendocino County. The Pudding Creek Express departs from Fort Bragg, on which your train will travel along the Pudding Creek Estuary to Glen Blair Junction on this short and scenic 1-hour, 7-mile roundtrip. You will be traveling over some of the first tracks laid down by the California Western Railroad in 1885. Once the train stops it will immediately return to Fort Bragg. The Northspur Flyer departs from Willits, on which your train will climb the Eastern slope of the Coastal Mountain Range and cut through it at Tunnel #2 (the Summit) before descending down into the redwood-thick Noyo River Canyon. This 4-hour, 40-mile roundtrip allows you to explore the wondrous forest where the world’s tallest trees take you back in time. Once you arrive at Northspur, the midpoint of the railroad, you will disembark for an opportunity to walk around, purchase lunch, and breathe the pristine mountain air.

“Fabulous Train Ride Through the Redwoods”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

Absolutely loved the Skunk Train. The train winds through the dense Redwood forest in a primevil atmosphere. You can't help but feel like you're traveling back in time when you take this ride. I would heartily reccomend the Skunk Train to anyone, especially people with children.

“GO SEE THE TRAIN SINGER!”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

What a great little train ride! We were there in April 2013 and there was an unexpected tunnel problem that made it impossible to take the regular 4-hr ride. Instead, they were offering 60-minute excursions for just $20! The ride itself would have been worth the price we paid, but the addition of the train singer who has been entertaining guests for the last 25 years is something that made the train ride very special. This man is full of pure joy and he loves his job, and I couldn't leave the train without supporting him by purchasing his book and one of his CD's. The book has an awesome poem that he wrote (and also entertained us with during my favorite part of the ride) as well as some great historical and old train photos. GO SEE HIM, AND CHECK OUT THIS GREAT PIECE OF HISTORY WHILE YOU STILL CAN! You will not be disappointed.

“Shortened trip”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

Liked trip but because of tunnel collapse only went 1/2 hour out and pushed back. Nice but disappointed by shortened trip. Oh well can't fight mother nature.

“a nice ride through the woods”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

the ride gets a little long on the way back, but just relax and enjoy, IF you like rhododendrons, and you go in May and June, you will be real happy, there is lot to see, a lot of beautiful flowers, If you like steam trains your going to be very happy, A pleasant relaxing way to spend a day on a train in the woods. I f your bringing children, bring books, games, and things to keep them occupied, because they might get bored, but its good for them sometimes to be bored. This is a nice family outing that you will talk about for years, and you will only do once, but it is worth it,where else could you get this experience, unless you got to DURANGO, and take the steam train there.

Fun to do and enjoyed the crews information although was a little sparse. Very scenic and nice lunch spot at the top. Worth doing but probable just once.
