Owner description: Trips departing from both Fort Bragg, CA and Willits, CA on the historic Redwood Route of Mendocino County. The Pudding Creek Express departs from Fort Bragg, on which your train will travel along the Pudding Creek Estuary to Glen Blair Junction on this short and scenic 1-hour, 7-mile roundtrip. You will be traveling over some of the first tracks laid down by the California Western Railroad in 1885. Once the train stops it will immediately return to Fort Bragg. The Northspur Flyer departs from Willits, on which your train will climb the Eastern slope of the Coastal Mountain Range and cut through it at Tunnel #2 (the Summit) before descending down into the redwood-thick Noyo River Canyon. This 4-hour, 40-mile roundtrip allows you to explore the wondrous forest where the world’s tallest trees take you back in time. Once you arrive at Northspur, the midpoint of the railroad, you will disembark for an opportunity to walk around, purchase lunch, and breathe the pristine mountain air.

So much fun to show my Granddaughter and her cousin what it was like and to share their first train ride. The entertainment was so much fun, so much fun listening to some fun songs. At the turn around point there is a fun place to eat, either their food or bring your own, time to relax before the return to Fort Bragg

Always wanted to go on the Skunk Train. It was worth the wait! A nice trip through the beautiful redwoods. The personnel was very nice. They even had a Train Singer who sang train songs. The trip was also very educational. There are bathrooms on board but they make airplane bathroom seem big. However, the bathrooms at the train station and at the turn around at Northspur are good sized, clean and nice.

Drove to Fort Bragg Aug 2012 to ride the Skunk Train again. It's been a few years, but wanted to show daughter-in-law and 18 mo old granddaughter the experience. Stayed at the Harbor Lite Lodge then rode the train next morning. Tix for train cost $49 adult (no senior discount) and goes to the halfway point called Northspur. Food/beverages avail, but we bought sandwiches at Safeway to get best quality. Good souvenirs at train station, friendly staff. Train crew very informative along the route, musician played train/western songs to entertain passengers on the rails and at Northspur. Conductor points out a 1,000 yr old Redwood trees and local logging history. Snacks and beverages avail on train, but not cheap. Weather was perfect both in town and along the train route. I highly recommend all take a ride either from the western side (Ft. Bragg to Northspur or all the way to Willits, or try the eastern trip from Willits. Check website for actual details. A must see and do on the Redwood Coast.
Have a great time !!

If you ae looking for something out of the ordinary to do while in Fort Bragg, take this ride. We paid the extra $20 to win the car reserved for adults without children. We are grandparents of nine and wanted this break. Also, in this car there is wine tasting and cheese for the entire trip there and back. We definitely recommend that option.

Check for days they are running the steam engine. I paid extra for a cab ride. It is best to ride in the cab on the uphill portion because the engine is working hard. Nice trip, good commentary about the history and area.
