We recently visited the Sonoma Valley, specifically the Russian River Valley. Over 3 days we visited 11 wineries for tastings. Our favorite was the very first one we visited, the one closest to Applewood Inn, Russian River Vineyards. The setting is gorgeous, the tasting room and restaurant are set outside on a patio surrounded by beautiful trees and gardens. Our pourer, a retired school teacher, was wonderful, taking time to inform us about the history of the winery, the area, the wines produced in the RRV. If we had not had reservations back at the Applewood for dinner, we would have stayed there for dinner.

We spent a week in the Forestville area with a group of friends in early July and, for our first night there, took a chance on Corks as it was close and seemed to be highly rated by Trip Advisor. Were we ever glad we did! We enjoyed a beautiful outdoor dinner with great live music (not too loud!), great food, fabulous wine and very capable and welcoming service. We all agreed that particularly the Pinot Noir and the Zinfandel from this winery (Russian River Winery) were the best we'd ever had - and ended up buying more at their store during the week! The setting is really cool - gardens (floral and vegetable) all around, rustic buildings, lovely outdoor patio area. Our server, Matthew, was wonderful - so friendly and attentive - a real character! The food was delicious from starters through to dessert using mostly locally produced ingredients. It was such a lovely experience that we came back later in the week to try out their farmer's market and then later enjoyed another great meal on our last night there. Again, great setting, great food, great wine, great service. Would highly recommend.

We had lunch at Corks last week only because our first choice restaurant was closed. Were we ever lucky! The menu concept is terrific if you want to share plates, which we did. We started out sharing the calamari (very good, if not the best I've had), a delicious soup, a charcuterie plate and a goat cheese tart. Service was great, with both Dawn and her daughter taking care of us.

The outdoor setting can't be beat, and the vintage (unrestored) cars/trucks are a hoot.

You'll be pleased by Corks.

We have been to this winery restaurant many times over the years under a variety of owners. This group is a vast improvement over the last one. We had brunch on Sunday with four adults and two children to give it a try under its latest management. First the good points. The setting is one of the best in wine country. Why aren't there more restaurants with views of the vineyards?? Service was excellent. The warm scones were outstanding - brought in from a bakery (they go fast and we got the last). The area that needs attention is the food. We had a variety of omelets and scrambled eggs. They were all dry and the veggies heaped inside the omelets were unimaginative and just not that good. The rest of the food was "ok" but nothing special. With a good chef this place would be awesome!!

They saved us! We had gone to another restaurant, where we had reservations, to be told they were closed for a private party. We went to Corks, and, and were told, regrettably, they were full. On their doorstep, trying to call around to find somewhere else to eat, the manager stopped us, brought us in and gave us a table. Their was a guitarist playing and singing, a garden setting, and we were in heaven.
We had excellent service, and some of the best scallops I had tasted! They melted in your mouth. The market salad is a must; made with fresh, local ingredients, and touches of surprise, like strips of seaweed across the top. My husband loved his steak, and our friends their pasta special and rabbit.
We may still try the other restaurant, but, on second thought, with a sure thing like Corks, we'll probably just, with reservations this time, go again.
