“We LOVE this place!”
Reviewed April 7, 2012

My husband and I are avid lovers of Back Wine Bar and Bistro. In fact, we started frequenting the place before they added the "bistro" section. The service is always fantastic. The owner goes out of his way to make time to talk to us. Great prices on the wine (flights are great). We've never ordered any of the menu items that weren't exceptional! We will continue to sing the praises of Back Wine Bar!

“This place could become a habit!”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

This place began as a tiny wine bar tucked into a suburan setting. It was like the series "Cheers" only with wine instead of beer! Recently, owner, Jeff Black, expanded the place to include a bistro dining area. He hired an amazing chef and now we are hooked on the wine and the food. Dining tip: Take advantage of their Prixe fixe Tuesday night menu. 3 courses for $25. From the simple flat iron skewers to the best Catalan stew outside of Spain, the menu is quite varied. Oh yeah...the wine selections are wonderful. Another tip: Listen to Jeff about what to drink with your food. Can't wait for our next visit.

“Really? In the middle of Folsom? No Johnny Cash here.”
Reviewed February 10, 2012

We didn't know what to expect, since it's in a strip mall across from a Raley's grocery store, but once in, we were charmed by the ambiance and low lights. We started with the bruschetta sampler, and couldn't decide which of the unconventional toppings were the favorite. Olive tapenade w/ balsamic drizzle or the white bean with goat cheese? Or the more traditional one? All superb. We had a variety of pasta dishes and the salmon entree, which came with fingerling potatoes and spinach and was melt-in-your-mouth delish. Salads, the asparagus soup of the day, all were sooo good! And many, many wine choices. The Wednesday special offers a bottle at a reduced price, so it's a good chance to try something new. Do not miss the pot de creme for dessert. It has hints of caramel and some kind of fancy salt on top. OMG, it will be the stuff of my dreams.

Since they opened the Bistro it has taken a few weeks to get things right but this is still a great local spot and the new chef is dishing up some fabulous treats!

“Hidden Gem!”
Reviewed August 18, 2011

Based on reviews that I read, I suggested Back Wine Bar for a first date. I have to say -- despite the rather bizarre location (in the middle of a shopping centre) -- it was a great experience! I would have never normally given it a second glance had I not known it was there. The selection was great and the service was on point. The staff was exceedingly friendly and the outside seating was perfect in the evening. Definitely a win!
