We spent nearly an hour. 30 minutes to watch the always "amazing" Huell Howser segment. Small but lots of cool stuff. The ferris wheel made of toothpicks, Rick James' guitar. And take a photo in front of the massive east gate. We saw deer and wild turkeys on the property. You should also view the Folsom Dam.

Not your usual outing. When you drive on to the property the first thing you notice is the stone guard tower. Right out of a Hollywood movie! There's all kinds of thing that the prisoners made in the museum that are outstand in stature and "how in heck did they do that" status. I got a kick at seeing a Kodak picture spot, like you see in Disneyland. The Folsom zoo is about a half mile away and old town Folsom is just down the road from there.

Yes, it is kitschky and wierd to visit the "Folsom Prison" of Cash song fame. But the guards are generally friendly, and for most people maybe you'll actually pick up a little kharma from those affected by our prison system (mostly women and children) here in the USofA. Be sure and check out the visitation center as you walk to the museum with it's visiting hours and rules, and try to remember that Cash did these concerts not to excuse those who have broken the law but to point to how we forget them and throw them and their families away like so much trash.

FYI I took my mom their on a motorcycle and she was thrilled!

Gives you an insight into what it was like to be incarcerated. Certainly few luxuries then, no rec rooms! Your questions will be answered by the knowledgable attendant. Adjacent to the impressive prison fortress and Represa Gift shop, lots of prisoner made arts and crafts. Boring for very young children but great for school age and older. Plenty of parking, close to Folsom dam and lake.

Enjoyed taking the grandchildren to see the museum. They so enjoyed seeing all the exhibits. It is a very worthwhile experience for all.
