Gives you an insight into what it was like to be incarcerated. Certainly few luxuries then, no rec rooms! Your questions will be answered by the knowledgable attendant. Adjacent to the impressive prison fortress and Represa Gift shop, lots of prisoner made arts and crafts. Boring for very young children but great for school age and older. Plenty of parking, close to Folsom dam and lake.

Enjoyed taking the grandchildren to see the museum. They so enjoyed seeing all the exhibits. It is a very worthwhile experience for all.

A quick stop at this museum, adjacent to the prison which is still in operation was enjoyed so much. It is only $2 to go in and see tons related to the prison over the years. Johhny Cash as well as Folsom Prison Bed-n-Breakfast T-shirts were what we took with us but there are plenty more there. The man working was very knowledgable and we learned a lot from him as well as the movie. On one of the hottest days of the summer, the cold air conditioning inside was refreshing. If you get in the area, go!!

Although you won't spend long at the museum, it offers a unique look at life in the prison spanning many years. There are a couple of gruesome artifacts, such as ropes used for hanging, as well as the more whimsical Monopoly "get out of jail free" card sent by a judge when capital punishment was ended in California. The placards offer very god explanations of the various displays, and be sure to watch the video. The fact that the museum is on the grounds of the prison adds to the visit.

This small museum is run by retired correctional officers for chairty. It only costs $2 to get in (kids free) and it is pretty interesting! Note to anyone interested: giving prisoners a machine shop=not a good idea! They make some cool stuff though: if they could channel their creativity to something other than trying to survive inside, the prisoners could do wonderful things.
