We stayed at Tenaya Lodge recently for a couple of nights. We were in the cabins. Our cabin was upstairs so we had a very nice view from the balcony. The living room was large and spacious. There was a fireplace (we never used it -- too hot inJuly) and that would've been perfect for a cold night. The king sized bed was comfortable. Both my husband and I slept well. My son slept in the bedroom which was large enough to have a queen sized bed. It too was comfortable. The bathroom was well sized and well stocked. The shower worked well. Other great things were the solitude--it was quite and we rarely saw other guests so I loved the solitude. We were able to park right outside the front door, location was on the south side so it was very easy to get to Mariposa Grove to see the giant sequoias. Easy check out. The not so good were the price was pretty high and I expected it to be more luxurious and better appointed (but I guess it's the location we paid for). One day the bacteria count was too high for the water to be safe for drinking. We had to use bottled water for brushing our teeth. It would've been nice if the front desk let us know we found out with a notice at the entrance of our cabin. One last thing if you can't do stairs make sure to let them know. Overall, a nice place to return to after a long day at Yosemite park.

Lets start with the positives: as all the in-park resorts were fully booked, we stayed three nights ate the Tenaya and found it a good location to access the park from the south. If you want to visit some of the great view point, you have to drive anyway. The Lodge itself is a big convention center-style hotel.
What made our stay very uncomfortable were the beds: we both had backaches from sleeping, turned around the mattress the second night, bit better, but still we felt terrible in the morning and decided to leave earlier. We did not have warm water at the tap at all, and too little for two showers in the morning. With regards to food variety and quality: we found it funny that two of them (Jakalope and Sierra) serve the same food, it created an illusion of variety that is not there actually. Our pasta was overcooked, all food tasted flat, no herbs, spices or oils added. We tried the Embers restaurant as well, here the food was nice, but pricey. The breakfast buffet is excellent.
Overall, we unfortunately did not enjoy the Lodge, despite the good location.

We stayed here 4 nights. Great location about 1 hour from the crowds of Yosemite. Excellent facilities with 4 restaurants, a deli and a store. We used the spa three times and the treatments were worth the money. Service during our stay was excellent with one exception during breakfast - our server kept forgetting we existed. We will definitely return here next time we are in the area. Loved it!

This place tries to do "expensive" by introducing elements of perceived luxury that collectively make the customers life more difficult and attempting to charge for anything they can get away with. WiFi is either free but resets every 1 hour when you have to log in enter passwords and go through a myriad of dubiously functioning pages not fully compliant with iPads to actually log in. But you can pray a "premium" for unlimited 24 hour access…. Puurrrrlease… al the Best Westerns for $100 a night we stayed at during our trip had free, fast and easy wifi and here it was a luxury. The restaurant capacity seems too small for the size of the place and there is a huge commotion around being seated in one of the restaurants. Even at breakfast we had to wait for a table. The buffet is nice but toast or bread of any kind has to be ordered from the waiter who will ask 10 questions about what bread you want for the toast, how well do you want it toasted, triangles or squares, etc, etc and then disappears and takes ages to bring it so by the time it arrives you're done with your eggs and bacon anyway.
We had a room on the ground floor with deck chairs on the lawn outside the room. Wasn't much of a view but still a nice touch.
Concierge was extremely friendly and informative – a high point.
Pool area looked very full during the day but loosened up nicely in the evening.
It's quite a drive from here to the valley or Glacier Point, the roads in summer are quite busy and the road seems more curvy and just kind of tedious compared to say Tioga Pass Road. If we came again we would probably stay in the valley.
Food and rooms were OK but probably 30% more expensive than you would get anywhere else – apparently that's Yosemite for you.

Room Tip: Some ground floor rooms have exit onto lawn / gardens

This is a high class lodge, which combines luxury with nature. I loved the overall feel. The food was excellent: the breakfast buffet was excellent, the 2 restaurants are a real treat. We loved it so much that we extended our stay by 2 nights. There are however 2 key issues: 1) we had no internet in the rooms, and when we called to complain, we were told that the external company that fixes these issues didn't work on weekends, so we just had to wait till monday to get internet; but that company had already come on friday to try to fix the issue and it didn't help at all. 2) Location is too far from Yosemite national park: more than an hour of turning mountain road (uncomfortable for our children). Therefore, we only went once to Yosemite national park, and explored the area around the lodge instead. If you want to go to Yosemite every day, this is probably too much of a trip. It was the case for us at least.

Our "cottage" was so dark we had to have the light on all the time, our balcony was a patch of dirt on the ground with two very dubious wicker chairs on and we were situated next to a huge storage tank, we never did find out what was in it. When we complained we were told that we could have a better room for an extra $100 per day. The concierge was missing for at least an hour after the sign on the door said she would return and no alternative help was offered by any of the completely unoccupied receptionists at the desk. The food in the restaurants was horrible, apart from breakfast which was superb. The noise of the other guests in the cottage was intrusive because of wooden floors and paper thin walls. However, the crowning glory came when I checked out and found that the room rate varied from day to day. I had initialled my acceptance of the first day on check in, not noticing the increased rate for the other days after a very long journey. When I queried this the girl at the desk was just downright rude.

On the plus side, the position of the hotel is as good as it gets without actually staying in the park and the service in the restaurants and the bar was superb. My advice would be to stay no longer than you absolutely have to because sadly it is probably better than the alternatives close by. Yosemite is worth the trip; this hotel is not worth the money.

The Tenaya Lodge is a modern and large relatively expensive hotel located in Fish Camp just outside the south gate to Yosemite National Park. The hotel has all the facilities you need, and more – including both a fancy dinner restaurant and a less expensive pub style bar & grill. A nice feature is that it is possible to sit outside on a large terrace facing the garden and pool area when you enjoy your meals or have a drink before dinner.
The location just outside the gate sounds very convenient when you are looking for a good place to stay during your visit to Yosemite. However, you should be aware that the Tenaya is actually an hour’s drive each way from Yosemite Valley.
When we visited Yosemite on our trip to Southwest USA in July we stayed for two nights at the Tenaya Lodge and were quite satisfied with everything – a very nice room, good food, friendly service – except the location.
If I could do it over I would find a room inside the park, even if is more expensive or less luxurious than the Tenaya, just to avoid losing time on transport to and from the valley.
If you visit Yosemite during the summer and you want to see e.g. Mirror Lake in peace and quiet before the crowds arrive, staying inside the park is a must.
