Tenaya Lodge benefits from one of the most beautiful settings I have ever seen - high in the Sierra Nevada mountains, just outside Yosemite national park.

We were greeted on arrival by a bubbly, happy receptionist who really perked us up after a long drive (and who happens to share my hobby, which is a bonus!). That set the tone for the whole hotel; without exception, the staff at reception, on the guided activities and in all the in-house restaurants were wonderful and really helpful.

The room was large and spotlessly clean, though admittedly the decor is not to my usual taste. The cleanliness carried through to the swimming pool and spa facilities, which were maintained in very good condition.

I would recommend taking part in one of the guided hikes around the local area, as well as taking a tour of Yosemite itself. For food, Jackalopes Bar does delicious (and enormous) burgers with sweet potato fries, while the Sierra Restaurant breakfasts are really good as long as you avoid the buffet.

All in all, if we go back to Yosemite we will DEFINITELY stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the swimming pool, which is open late and can be noisy.

This hotel has everything, on our previous visit we stayed in a room....this time we hired a cottage. The cottage was perfect and we really felt away from it all....so peaceful, watching the wildlife from our little deck area. Food in the bar was lovely and good value. All of the staff were nice too. Fingers crossed for a 3rd visit

Room Tip: We had no hot water in our room last year and asked for a member of staff to fix it..........we were...

Thank you for your repeat business and taking the time to share your positive feedback. It’s wonderful that you have had the opportunity to enjoy both Tenaya’s main lodge accommodations as well as our Cottages. Nestled within a Sugar Pine forest just a short walk across the property, the seclusion of the Cottages is a great option for groups and couples desiring just a touch more privacy and separation from the Tenaya resort scene. Since it appears you truly enjoyed staying at the Cottages, we’re now very curious to where you’ll stay on you third visit. We look forward to seeing you then, and thanks again for your comments!

This is my first trip to Yosemite and I booked the family into the tenaya lodge for 4 days. At over 200USD a night it was the most expensive hotel of the trip and the 'resort' promised a lot on their website. However the reality is very different. After check in we went to the room where we were greeted with dirty towels, crying children in the room next door and a damp musty smell. The walls are so thin that anyone walking up and down the corridor can be heard in the room. We ate dinner in the Sierra restaurant and the service was appalling. We waited 20 minutes to have our order taken and I had to ask on 3 separate occasions for the check. It was a complete waste of money I recommend you to stay further down the mountain and drive up to the National Park. It will only add 20 minutes your joinery each day but save a lot of money and the hotels looked in better condition.

Room Tip: Try another hotel down the mountain this is was overpriced for what it is!

Thank you for comments, Laura, and we're sorry that Tenaya Lodge did not meet your expectations. Hopefully our staff was notified that your room did not meet our high standards upon your arrival and this issue was resolved quickly. If not, we appreciate you bringing this to our attention now. We’re also sorry to hear that your experience at our Sierra Restaurant was unsatisfactory. Your food service comments have been reviewed by our restaurant management staff and will help us provide better guest service in the future. Thanks again for sharing your feedback, and we hope you will give us another chance to upgrade your experience at both our hotel and restaurants.

The hotel is generally good, but the shower situation is totally UNACCEPTABLE! Freezing temperatures outside and about 10% chance to get even tepid water inside. We complained, they sent someone, nothing changed. You will find the same complaint repeated in many other reviews here, some of them as old as two years: so it is unlikely that they are actually planing to do something about it...

Thank you for your comment, Helena. We’re sorry to hear that this issue wasn’t addressed during your stay and appreciate you bringing it to our attention. As with any popular resort situated near a treasured national park, property use can be significant and reinvestment in our rooms and public areas is an ongoing process. You have identified an issue that we have been working to resolve over the last two years. During this time the property has chemically re-coated or re-lined the entire hotel guestroom plumbing system. Currently we have about 15 percent or less of the property left to complete the project. Thanks again for taking the time to share your feedback and we hope to have another opportunity to upgrade your experience at Tenaya Lodge!

I surprised my husband for his 30th birthday with a trip to Yosemite... we stayed at Tenaya Lodge and I was pleasantly surprised... Maybe I wouldn't have been if I'd read reviews more closely, but we found the lodge very well located--just a few miles into the Park. We also found the food at the Sierra Restaurant to be VERY good (we split a filet and the short ribs). We were happy to have the deli on site where we could feed our latte addiction--the lattes were very reasonably priced, all things considered. The staff was very friendly and courteous. The only thing I feel the need to "warn" others about is the high volume of kids. Again, maybe we should have expected this, as there was a high volume of kids at the Park in general. We will definitely stay at Tenaya again!

I used the pool and jacuzzi the next morning before we left and enjoyed the buffet breakfast. i am srry now we didnt book an extra night in Tenaya Lodge to get the full benefits of all the hotel has to offer.

consistent with other reviews, this is a great spot for families. Yes, the restaurants are just okay, but the service in them is very good, ie sincere, generally young servers, who like the remainder of the hotel staff, a genuinely friendly and helpful. Well located just 5 minutes or so from the south park entrance and about 30 minutes to Badger Pass (45 minutes or so to the Valley).
