The Narrow Gauge Inn loved up to expectation on all counts for us and we really enjoyed the three nights we had there. it's just on the edge of the park near the south entrance, so it's around an hour's drive into Yosemite valley, but closer to Mariposa. A good tip would be to go there first, right after breakfast as the grove's car park fills up really quickly and then you need to take the shuttle, which adds over an hour to the visit.

Our room was clean and comfortable and the balcony was a really good bonus for the end of a day of hiking. After being charged $4.50 each for a beer the first night, we picked up beers from a local convenience store the remaining nights to drink on our balcony.

Food in the restaurant is excellent, though breakfast in the morning is very poor with the coffee in particular being memorable for having no taste at all, even by the standards of typically weak (for us Europeans) American coffee.

The hot tub has a sign-up sheet, but we went in around 4pm when we got back from the park and it was easy to get signed up and the hot-tub is a good temperature and very vigourous.

My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights as part of a long road trip. The hotel is really well located close to the South Yosemite Park entrance - it takes about 10 - 15 mins to get to the gate and then about another 45 mins to get to Yosemite Valley. The hotel is surrounded by forest, so its really calm, there's lots of wildlife and its a very pleasant setting.

We went for one of the cheaper rooms, but it still had a great view from the shared balcony/walkway. We called it Father Christmas' bedroom as it was full of pine and red furnishings!! The bed was comfy and the room was clean, my only small complaint was that the walls are very thin - you can hear your neighbours conversation and people in the rooms above you. If you are a light sleeper ear plugs are a must.

It was great that a small breakfast was included - it consisted of fresh fruit, toast, muffins, coffee and porridge. Again, a real bonus as no where else we stayed included it. The restaurant staff were really friendly and we also ate in there one evening. The menu is quite pricey (not helped by our rubbish exchange rate), but we treated ourselves to steaks one night (one of which was Elk) and the food was absolutely fantastic - one of the best steaks we have ever had. All in it was about £80 in Sterling, but definitely worth it.

Overall this hotel offers really good value close to Yosemite Park. Yes you have to drive another hour to get to the Valley, but it you want to be close you would have to spend more than double on a Park hotel or go camping with the bears instead! The hotel is quaint and unique, and I would recommend it to a friend.

Very well kept property, Extended Continental Breakfast included. Nice gift shop, which gives overnight guests 15% off. Property borders the Yosemite Mountain and Sugar Pine Railroad, a tourist logging railroad similar to the one at Cass, WV, and with the same type Shay locomotives. You can walk through and not have to take your car to do this attraction. There is also a nice restaurant at the Narrow Gauge, but be advised that it is not open on Monday and Tuesday nights, so you will need to either bring some picnic supplies in or plan a 15 minute drive for your dinner, which really is not any problem. There is hiking and this is just a really beautiful property. I recommend it highly.

we stayed here for three nights. Our main reason for staying here was to be near Yosemite National Park. It's a ten minute drive to the park gates but it is easily another 50 min drive from the park gates to the actual park itself. driving in and out every day did get tiring but this was the only downside of this hotel. Our room was very big, comfortable and cosy. The restaurant was lovely, the food was great. Breakfast was cereal, muffins, toast and fresh fruit, very tasty. The pool area was lovey and the hot tub was great to relax in after hiking in yosemite! The staff were very friendly and exceptionally helpful, my husband left his camera charger behind and they posted it on to our next hotel. I would def stay in this hotel again.

This place was great, and the room was very clean and cozy. The place was nested in the woods, and gave us a sense of privacy. I would definitely come back to this place, and I hope to go back very soon. Also, this hotel is very close to the sequoias, which makes it a great destination hotel.

We stayed here for 1 night on the way up to Yosemite Valley. We drove up from southern Orange County, this was the perfect place to stay. Enjoyed the beautiful flowers, fire truck, cozy rooms, swimming pool and close walk to the Sugar Train. Would recommend it to our friends and family! BTW, they do offer wireless internet (for a small fee) if you need to check email, etc...
