Are you heading the "back way" to Ventura and/or Santa Barbara? If so, you owe yourself a breakfast or lunch stop at "La Fondita," a family owned hole-in-the-wall restaurant on Central Ave in Downtown Fillmore. The menu items are delicious and filling, but the depth of the menu is smaller, which allows the cook to really concentrate on tasty, quality fare.
I decided on breakfast and ordered the standard breakfast burrito, which was fresh tortilla stuffed with eggs, carne asada (steak) potatoes, steaming beans, cilantro, and two kinds of homemade salsa. Delicious and filling, it was a steal at 5.99!
My friend ordered a chicken burrito "wet" style with two kinds of sauce. The chicken was tender and mouthwatering. Along with our meals we selected a homemade horchata drink (cocanut, suger, milk) and a pepsi. The total bill was under $20, including tip, making this meal for two a bargain as well as delicious.
"La Fondita" recently enlarged their dining room area, and there is very limited seating on the sidewalk facing Central Ave.
There are countless places to buy authentic Mexican food in So Cal, and "La Fondita" ranks with the best! Great service, tasty food, and did I mention? A bakery on the premises so you can take a "churro" to go!
