Love this town. It's unique and friendly. Walk the streets, take in the beauty of the architecture, mingle with the locals, have a cocktail at the palace , and the best burger money can buy on your way out. You won't be disappointed

The main street in Ferndale is a lovely old Victorian area. The colorful homes are nice, very much like in San Francisco. After driving to the lost coast and back we needed a place to stop and stretch and this was the perfect spot. There are few nice coffee places and ice cream shops, but not much more.

After a morning drive through the "Avenue of the Giants" we found Ferndale, about 20 miles north of the morning's drive. This is a lovely small town with many examples of Victorian Architecture, both houses, hotels, and business buildings. There are a number of shops - of special mentions is the "The Blacksmith Shop & Gallery". It features hand forged lamps, house fittings and bric a brac. Additionally the shop and gallery have hand made jewelry and personal items. It was a 45 minute stop in our 3 hour visit. The historic cemetery, museum and other features are also worth the visit. http://www.ferndaleblacksmith.com/

There is an artist alley with work shops for a number of people including a "plank on plank" model ship builder. Hotel and Inn, in period buildings, looked great and we'll plan an overnight stay on a future trip
