My husband and I arrived at the Gingerbread Mansion Inn just in time for late afternoon tea/wine -- your choice or both! We drank our wine out on the lovely garden deck and enjoyed chatting with two other couples who were staying at the hotel that night. The service at the hotel was excellent: the receptionist made a dinner reservation for us. The room was exactly as pictured online and was clean and comfortable. The inn itself is gorgeous and immaculately kept up. The town of Ferndale itself was enjoyable to walk around in. I highly recommend the local butcher's sandwiches for lunch.

Room Tip: Rooms on the street side may get car noise from the neighbors on weekdays in the morning when they leave to go to work.

This is another of our new favorite places to stay. The building itself is lovingly restored both inside & out. There are so many beautiful objects to look at in each room. Check out that built-in china cabinet. Our bedroom was the fountain suite, which was large & beautifully decorated. And check out those two bathtubs--so cool. Even seating in front of a lovely fireplace in the bathroom. The afternoon wine & appetizer & tea was heavenly. The buffet was beautiful & tasted delicious. The ladies working there as hostesses are tremendous. Everything flowed like clockwork. I hope the owners appreciate these special ladies for all their abilities. The outside yard area was so fun. We drank wine, visited with other guests & marveled at the beauty of the gardens. Breakfast was delicious. You will not be disappointed here.

Here’s an inn with a unique identity which, to me at least, seems like a fusion between something out of a fairy story and a Victorian melodrama. The décor is bold and imaginative, perhaps even over-indulgent, and provides a charm and warmth that runs throughout this refurbished property, from the 3 or 4 public rooms downstairs to the various individually designed bedrooms. Without doubt, an intriguing place to stay, superbly furnished and full of atmosphere.

I choose to stay here based entirely on the curiosity aroused by the inn’s website and, in retrospect, it more than lived up to my expectations. The small “Victorian” town of Ferndale had never previously registered on my radar but the town, together with the inn itself, combined to make the whole experience akin to stepping back 100 years in time – but, of course, with today’s comforts!.

We stayed in The Hideaway Room, where the luxuriously high queen bed (with foot stool) more or less dwarfed the entire room. However, there was a staircase within the room leading to a small loft room with a further single bed. The room certainly had character and contained a fireplace, walk-in shower and had a small balcony although without much of a view. Unfortunately, we found the room a bit too small but then, that comes with the territory, given this is a unique Victorian building which at one time served as a small hospital in its long history. With tax and a good cooked breakfast the room came to a very reasonable $215. Some of the larger more exotic rooms come at a higher price.

The inn has clearly undergone a bold expensive and extravagant refurbishment and I wish the owners success in their worthy endeavour. A delight to stay there and a great alternative to staying in Eureka.

Once again my wife and I went to the Humboldt county fair for the "Horse Racing" and had a blast!
This year we stayed at the newly "reopened" inn the "Gingerbread Mansion". The staff was very friendly and the guest even more so. The place is great, we have made our trek to the horse racing at the fair many times but really enjoyed our stay. During the second night of our stay we went to see Cate( employee at the inn ) and booked the Fountain room for next year. The room has two claw foot tubs, kinda like the TV commercial, but they were great after a 150 mile motorcycle ride!

Room Tip: There is a fountain on the garden side which the sounds put you to a nice sleep.

For my wife's birthday, we spent a couple of days at the Gingerbread Mansion, again. It gets better in my opinion. We were warmly greeted by Linda, who remembered us from our last visit, The Rose room was great. The breakfasts were very tasty, and the afternoon, wine, and tea had hors d'oeuvres added to the cheese, and pastries plates. All were very tasty.
As other guests have stated, It is like taking a step back into time. It's very comfortable. We've been here before several times and will continue to return. I checked some of the motels in the Ferndale-Fortuna area and if you factor in what one would spend on breakfasts and the afternoon treats, the cost is about the same (maybe a little more) but it's so much more enjoyable.
As always, Ferndale is fun to walk around in and shop.

Room Tip: There are two rooms on the first floor if you have trouble with stairs. One is ADA configured.
