Here's an easy place to take a family walk in the redwoods. The loop through the grove is a little over a mile and is an easy stroll for all ages. The truly awe-inspiring part about being in the redwoods is not just the size of the trees, but the sense of age and the quiet, calming atmosphere.

We drove down from South SF in about an hour or so. Rte 101 to rte 85 to Hwy 17. We adored our easy 1-mile stroll around the loop in the redwood grove. Awesome trees, informational plaques along the trail, a nice docent from the Bronx halfway through. An exceptional visit with some real California giants!! Happy 92nd b-day to John in the visitor center!!

Very well kept, this park is a must-see if you're visiting North California coast (15 minutes from Santa Cruz). Magical atmosphere surrounds the park.

Peaceful walk in the redwoods - could well have done without the barking dogs, although mercifully they are not allowed on certain trails.

Just go here. It's like no place else on earth. The wonderful smells, the huge trees, and amazing volunteers to guide you through it all. You can park for free on Highway 9 and hike in if there's room, but a day pass (which is good for all State parks in for the day) is well worth it. Docents man this park nearly all the time, and you can almost always catch a public or private tour or at least a personal story from local historian/interpreters. Tons of hiking trails from easy to moderate to challenging -- some with views all the way to the ocean. This place also backs up to Roaring Camp Railroad, so you can walk over there and peek at their fun camp too....don't have to even move the car.

Do it! You won't regret it.
