After reading other reviews, hotel doesn't seem to have addressed any of the issues. We stayed this weekend for a wedding and experienced:

1) Impolite staff at front desk and on the phone (trying to check-in prior to 4pm) - they just say "no" and don't care
2) Lack of hotel amenities - how can a "resort" have only one additional pillow in the entire place
3) Room service stopping at 10pm and being told "use yellow pages" to find food elsewhere
3) The walls are ridiculously thin - especially when a child insists on running up and down on the floor above from 6.30am
4) And it is interesting that the front desk don't ask "How was your stay?", just thank you for staying. Then they are not in the least bit interested when you do complain.

Resort is vey, very nice. Staff especially nice. All more than willing to accomodate and seem to go the extra distance to assist, or ask if they can. Dining and bar facilities well designed and each provide their own appropriate ambiance and views. Wonderful food, best scallop dinner we've ever had, and the sushi is just fantastic. Golf course kept green and pristene. Tough, narrow, challenging holes are designed to keep your game focussed but very enjoyable. Every hole presents a different but wonderful, scenic backdrop. Golf staff very attentive, children friendly, helpful and seem to go out of their way to welcome and encourage a great game and promote junior golf. Great professional staff. Members too are very friendly and seem to promote their club at every turn. Well done all. This resort can honestly and proudly place itself among the finest. We will ensure that Pala Mesa receives top recommendations from us. Memorable. Thank you Pala Mesa.

Just came back from a wedding at the Pala Mesa Resort. I was very disappointed in the standards of the "King Executive Suite." Although a large room, the linens, carpet, furniture and overall room had my spouse and I rushing to the nearest K-Mart to buy our own sheets and other things to make it more comfortable -- including an un Godly amount of bug spray and Raid. There were undoubtedly bugs in our bed -- whether or not they were bed bugs I'm not sure. There were spiderwebs all over our patio and our room was filled with bugs and moths and for the nearly $200/night fee it really made our stay completely uncomfortable. The water pressure in the room was also very low, making it hard to wash shampoo out of our hair. This hotel is like a summer camp for golfers. If you're staying here for a wedding, I would highly recommend you check out other hotels in the area, unless you're going to be playing a ridiculous amount of golf. Also not much to do on site. Don't stay here. There are other hotels in the area. It really made going to any personal event a very uncomfortable situation. The wedding itself was pretty, but the food and service was mediocre for brides looking for a venue in the area.

Also, the walls were so thin that the people who were drunk in the next room sounded like they were right next to you. Not a pleasant experience at all. Would never go back to that hotel again. Anyone who leaves a positive recommendation fo this place, must be employed by the place -- or an avid golfer willing to overlook some basic comfort needs in a hotel.

PMRManagement, Front Office Manager at Pala Mesa Resort, responded to this reviewResponded July 21, 2010

Dear Guest:

Thank you for choosing the Pala Mesa Resort on your recent visit to North San Diego. I have had the opportunity to review the Trip Advisor survey that you completed, and I was disappointed to learn that you had a negative experience with our guest room product as well as noise complaints during your stay. Ultimately, guest service and a pleasant experience is the issue most remembered about a hotel visit and I apologize that we did not live up to your or our expectations. I know that does not change your experience but I hope that you are confident that I understand your concerns and we are addressing our shortcomings so this is appropriately mitigated in the future.

I would be happy to discuss this situation further. Please feel free to do so through the front office directly at 760 731 6804. We are sorry for any inconveniences you faced and we want to make sure you know that you are a valued guest at our hotel.

Sincerely,

Director of Guest Services

I stayed at the Pala Mesa Resort for one night for a work conference. Hotel is lovely and the grounds are beautiful. The rooms are very large and comfortable. I didn’t get to spend much time in the area but would like to come back for a weekend getaway.
