This is the shining star of wineries in the Suisun Valley.... This small vineyard produces magnificent wines. Whether you like white or red, the blendings are top notch.

My husband and I spent 3 days in Napa going on wine tours and tasting at different vineyards. We had a wonderful time. The view, education, weather, and overall experience was fabulous. On the last day we wanted to go to one that wasn't quite so commercial. We chose Vezer Family Vineyard. It was about a 35 minute drive from Napa, but well worth the drive. It’s a beautiful southern looking building nestled in the rolling vineyards.
Joseph, our personal tour guide, was wonderful. He is funny, passionate, informed, and made the experience very special. We started with a couple of wines to taste, then went on a tour of the grounds, were we had a barrel tasting. Then back into the main house where we tasted about 6 more wine that Joseph paired with a nice selection of bread sticks, cheeses, meats, and chocolate. We were there a couple of hours and we had the tasting room to ourselves. There were other people in the main room, but they do the tours in private groups. Joseph took a lot of time and made it so fun. If you want to go off the main path a little, I highly recommend it.

We started our week in Napa visiting the vineyards in Napa and Sonoma. We had a Groupon for the Vezer winery in Fairfield in the Suisun Valley. It is about a 30 minute drive, but seems a world away from Napa. Vezer is a family run winery, very friendly and unpretentious. What could have been a bad experience for us, turned into fantastic experience. Our Groupon offer for tasting, tour and free bottle of wine, was left behind at our hotel in Napa. When we arrived at the winery, I found Jake, the wine maker, who was crushing grapes at the time and explained to him our situation. He stopped in the middle of his work and set up the computer for me so that I could access my Groupon account and retrieve my confirmation number. Then Ron, the tour guide, gave us a most interesting tour, followed by wine tasting and a delicious cheese platter. At the end, Ron presented us with a bottle of red wine. We prefer whites, and asked Ron if we can have a bottle of pinot grigio instead. Ron, being so accommodating, sent us on our way with the wine we requested, one of the wines presented at the tasting.

If you want to spend the afternoon in a beautiful setting (the Victorian home is lovely), amongst friendly proprietors, sipping fantastic wines, Vezer should be on the top of your list. Try the wine they call "Sophie", named after their daughter. Most unusual with a taste of lavender, grapefruit, hazelnut. It will surprise you with a buttered popcorn taste at the end!
