The Sleeping Lady has comparable prices to other places to eat in town, but it's special in several ways. First: it is a big music venue, with someone playing every night and a number of afternoon musical traditions as well. Second: the food is inventive and hip as well as delicious, with some interesting flavors you don't find everywhere, and a very good variety of choices. Also, when music isn't playing, it is a more relaxed and calm spot for a quiet get-together than some of the other places in town. In fine weather, the big windows open out all the way, bringing the fresh air right into the room; or, if you want to be all the way outdoors, you can sit in the garden to the rear.
Nice selection of beverages as well, from teas to interesting beers (non-alcoholic also) to more potent things. The french fries with truffle oil are a treat, and when they are served, the place gets fragrant with them for several minutes.
Small children are happy here too because they can play on the carpeted stage with the toys that are there. Oh, and did I mention the board games? Lots of folks like to come on Sunday afternoons and play board games on the tables along one side, while on the other side the Irish traditional session is playing (after about 2;30). On Saturdays, it's ukelele players who converge on the place at noon and fill it with easygoing cheer.
The staff have always been pleasant as long as I've been coming here. I agree with another reviewer that the service can sometimes be slow, and a couple of times they've had people working here who were not focused enough to give good service (would you PLEASE look in my direction instead of chatting with that person at the bar?), but so far, I have not gotten mad enough to justify lowering my rating.
