Unless you need more than the average amenities, this hotel is suitable for a one-night stay. Yes, the area of town is downscale and the exterior and landscaping will win no awards, but check-in was business-like, and the room (at the back of the hotel) was quiet (with the AC unit left on) and clean, if routinely furnished. The beds were comfortable and the shower pleasantly hot. Our only complaint was the lack of PBS on the TV.

Room Tip: If you want dead quiet and no exterior noise, look elsewhere. There is steady traffic in front and d...

After a days long drive, we pull into the crowded Red Lion Parking lot. My husband checks-in, and we proceed to wind our way to a very, very loud first floor area where room signage is very bad (near a conference room). We finally find our room and the first thing I see is Bosley hair products for men, and dental floss on the sink. Then a bar of used soap in the shower. In the bedroom, the ironing board was wedged behind the tv and the hanging lampshade was cattywampus. The bed was made but looked like someone had slept on top of it-- the duvet was all disheveled.
My husband said "I'm getting us another room." It took quite awhile for him to return and he looked displeased. He said the woman who had checked him in was unhelpful and unapologetic, stating "well we have other guests who haven't checked in yet who'll need the other rooms." My husband stood his ground and said he wouldnt stay in the 'used' room and the manager overheard and, also unapologetically, but at least rightly told the check-in clerk to "give him another room!"
The 2nd room was clean, but the whole experience left us feeling like we'll avoid Red Lions at all costs!
Dirty, inhospitable, grumpy and over-priced

Hello,

I wanted to extend my apologies for the mix up let led to you being checked a room that had not been cleaned yet. I will look into your statement about our front desk associate and identify the traiing opportunities to improve our service. I am happy to hear the team was able to get you moved into a different room that was ready. That is what I would have expected, immediatly.

Thank you, I look forward to being of service to you in the future if you will extend us the opportunity.

I had a really hard time arriving at a rating. this hotel. I start my reviews at three starts, at expectations, and add or subtract accordingly. I made my reservation through Hotwire which listed it as a three star hotel. This is no three star hotel. The outside is very poor. Nasty parking lot with no security and kids skateboarding. The building looks very bad. Inside is better. Clean, nice room and beds, nice shower but still nothing resembling a three star hotel. If I had not needed service my ranking would have been a weak two stars. I did need service a couple of times though and the response was terrific, far better than I expected.

Hi Niall,

Thank you for staying with us and I am happy to hear the service exceeded your expectations. I absolutly agree with your assessment on the exterior. I am very excited to say we have been working on a couple of projects new exterior parking lot lighting, painting the exterior or building and in the fall resealing & striping the parking lot.

I hope to be of service to you on your next trip to Eureka.

Sincerely,
Raul Ainardi

When we contacted the hotel directly to request a specific room location, the staff was very pleasant, and did follow through in accommodating our preference . (This may seem trivial to some, but an upper floor and quiet location makes a big difference in the quality of our stay.) At check-in, the front desk agent, who was funny and welcoming, went above and beyond to offer information to enhance our visit. When there was a misunderstanding regarding the cost of breakfast, he graciously gave us the benefit of the doubt, and corrected the charges. Finally, when we called in a panic the day after check-out to see if our laptop had been found, the desk agent said that he would confirm, and call us back. To the credit of all the employees, it had been turned in for safekeeping. We are extremely grateful for the high quality of professional service we received throughout our Red Lion experience.

In general, the room was spacious and comfortably furnished, though the mattress could have been better. The hotel is in the process of remodeling/upgrading, and should be quite nice once improvements are completed. We originally thought that our room facing the bay would have a balcony; although it did not, at least the windows opened slightly. The view toward the bay is over an industrial neighborhood in the foreground, while rooms on the other side face Highway 101 and a business area. But that's true of any hotel in Eureka that's close to the marina and Old Town, so we felt it was a good choice, and would stay there again.

The room, staff, pool, cleanliness and, etc. were superb. Lots of big fluffy sparkling clean towels, nice staff, large comfy modern rooms and, classic Red Lion comfortable beds. The restaurant was poorly run. The staff was polite once you figured out how to get a seat in the very un-busy dining room (you were supposed to know to NOT stand by the " wait to be seated" sign and instead go in thru the bar - I guess? The food was bland, the seafood artificial and canned - shame on their chef! I had a crab/lobster melt. The crab was canned (the texture and flavor of cat food) the lobster was artificial - blech! There was no sauce filler or spices in the seafood - it was slapped (scantily) on the bun, a slice of poor quality cheese and, a slice of tomato melted under the broiler. The crab/lobster mix (gross stuff) was not even warm. With the wealth of fresh seafood available in this area the chef should be sent to the corner with a dunce cap for that horror of a sandwich.

Stayed here with a tour group. Room was average, large, clean, nice bed, reading chair. Only issue was that the old style air conditioner in the wall did not put out any cold air, just a lot of noise. Several of us in the group had the same issue in their rooms.

Desk clerks were accomodating when I asked to switch my room. The breakfast buffet was well laid out and kept up, although the waitress seemed to be overworked trying to keep up with clearing tables and resetting silverware. Two computers in lobby. Easy walk to a few restaurants, although not the best part of town after dark.

Eureka is kind if a shady town and this place was recommended by the Harley dealer. Great place, friendly staff and great bar to watch a hockey game. Definitely a place to return to the next time we are in town
