“Cookie-Cutter Motel (not Hotel)...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2013

We stayed in this motel on a Sunday night to visit with some friends in Eureka. I booked this motel because it seemed to be the best fit for us..

First impressions -- it seemed to be a fairly nice motel. Parking was a bit tight, and getting into and out of it was a bit problematic due to turns directly onto a multi-lane one-way highway. The property seemed to be in good condition.

I was hoping that check-in wasn't an indication of the experience that we were going to have, especially since the front desk clerk was more interested in getting the football game on the TV than on actually checking anyone into the hotel.

The room, although touted as being "large", wasn't altogether that big. It seemed rather cramped with a king bed, the dresser, a table, and two small chairs. The bathroom needed some refreshing but was in pretty good shape.

The bed wasn't that comfortable, compared to other Best Westerns that I've stayed at in the past, but we did sleep reasonably well. As other reviewers have stated, there is a fairly significant amount of road noise in the mornings, as the hotel is directly on the highway. It didn't seem to penetrate the rooms that much, though.

Breakfast... what an experience. I didn't get to partake of the food, so I can't talk to quality, but the area was TINY. There were perhaps 8 tables available for patrons to sit, and they were packed with people hovering around and waiting. However, I didn't see the "hot breakfast" as advertised -- it was primarily a continental breakfast (pastries, cereal, fruit), with the addition of a waffle station. I didn't see eggs or any sort of meat available.

Check-out was to be expected... quick and easy...

Room Tip: I would recommend a room in the center of the property, so that the noise from the highways doesn...

Stayed two nights on recent trip to Eureka. Staff was very helpful, especially the complimentary limo service to restaurants; room extremely comfortable (well-insulated, even though ours was close to the 101); breakfast was basic, but offered enough fresh choices to satisfy and dining area was kept very clean.

This hotel has nice rooms with lots of little extras, a nice pool area, and a limo for rides around town. it is a few blocks from the town center, but is an easy walk. The free breakfast is buffet-style (cereal, oatmeal, donuts, fruit, etc..) and was incredibly busy the morning I was there, so that the poor staff were struggling to keep up with the demand and seating spaces were hard to find. Obviously it is a popular place, especially for families on their way to or from the redwoods.

We struggled to fault this hotel but it just falls short of a top rating. It looks appealing from the outside. The welcome was exemplary, a very friendly and efficient check-in. The room was modern and very clean with all mod cons. The decaf coffee in the room was really nice. There is a lovely pool and jacuzzi area which is open until 10pm. The limo service to local restaurants is a nice touch although we couldn't take advantage of it as it was busy. Our breakfast was delicious and there is lots on offer, including some healthy and lots of naughty choices. The main downside is the wifi signal which was very poor. We had intermittent access with regular messages about too many people being connected at the same time. Otherwise it was a nice stay for a reasonable price.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the busy road if possible.

The hotel was overpriced. We used the hot tub which was nice, and the pool would be great if you brought children. The breakfast was your typical Best Western meal. The room did smell a little - maybe there was a prior smoker.

Best value in Eureka, CA I have stayed at both Best Westerns and this one is less expensive and more versitle. The restaurant next door is ok as well. This one has a pool table with indoor pool and limo service to various restaurants in the area.

We arrived in Eureka as part of a 12 day motorcycle trip, I realized as we arrived I might of made reservations at a different Best Western at the south end of town. It looked fine but we wanted to stay downtown. The people at the Humboldt Inn were able to change everything for us without a cancellation penalty. They also gave us a ground floor room, which is very helpful when your're on a bike. They offer complimentary limo service on week nights, that we took advantage of to go to dinner and have a few drinks. It was one of the highlights of our trip. The facility is gorgeous. Very well kept. We hope to stay there again soon.

Room Tip: All the rooms looked great.
