After a day in the redwood forests, we were ready for some civilization. Carter House was the perfect resting spot. Rooms were clean, attractive, and comfortable. Lobby and service were warm and inviting. Put the kids to bed and enjoyed a drink at the cozy bar. The next morning, appreciated the good coffee and fresh fruit on the breakfast buffet. Thanks for a great stay!

We stayed here unexpectedly on our road trip up the coast. From the moment we walked in we were greeted by smiling faces. Danielle and Jon made us feel right at home. We ate dinner at the bar and Mike was wonderful, very attentive and the food was amazing. We stayed on the third floor and fell asleep with the sound of rain hitting the roof. The rooms were extremely clean, well stocked, and very unique. We slept very well and in the morning had one of the best breakfasts ever! A spinach, provolone, and artichoke omlet that looked as good as it tasted! Anyone who has the opportunity to stay here definitely should. You will not be disappointed at all, just sitting near the fire enjoying the 8pm cookies and tea is enough to make anyone want to come back. The architecture and design of Carter House is amazing, there is detail in everything. Great job Carter House, we will be back!

Carter House is a wonderful hotel in downtown Eureka, CA. Located in the historic oldtown out is within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants. The hotel is a remodeled Victorian style building with every available amenity. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, they made us feel more like visiting family than just paying customers. With prices comparable to big chain hotels it is a fantastic deal. I have never been so comfortable and felt so welcome at a hotel as I did at Carter House.

Carter House Inns has thought of everything! On top of having what all hotels do, clean towels, maid service, restaurant, etc., they have all the little extras! Bath salts, rubber bath mat, comfy robes, DVDs to watch, makeup remover towelettes, umbrellas, AND a buffet and delicious hot entree for breakfast at no additional charge! They also provided a wood burning fire with dessert and hot tea every evening! The staff went above and beyond to make our stay a 5 star experience! I would definitely stay here again!

We stayed here during our road trip of the Oregon Coast and were appointed rooms in their separate house, which hosts three rooms. There were no other guests, so with two rooms occupied by myself, my husband and a friend, it felt like we had our own house! We were even able to park our car in front of 'our' house (for free).
The house has a kitchen and living room, all the rooms have their own bathrooms -ours even had a jacuzi bathtub.
The rooms were just right and well designed, only a bit cold, even with the own fireplace in the room.
We had dinner at the hotels restaurant across the street, which was good, but a bit overpriced compared to other restaurants we visited during our trip versus the quality.
We were too late for their free afternoon wine reception, but received a free glass of wine at our dinner to compensate, a very nice touch and great service!
The breakfast was included in the rate, but was not too impressive. The servants were absent most of the time, so we just left at one point, without saying goodbye, just leaving a tip on the table. They could improve on this, compared to the rest of the almost perfect service.
The hotel is very well situated in the old part of town, you can walk there easily.
Would probably stay here again, if in the area.
Tip: the owner of Carter House is also owner of Envy Wines in Calistoga. You can get a 2for1 wine tasting coupon at the reception of the hotel, should you visit the Sonoma area during your trip. They also serve these wines in the restaurant.

Room Tip: You can stay in the main building, but also in their separate house.

I stayed here for business, but it is also a great romantic getaway. The desk in the room was well lit with ample outlets. The fireplace cozy. The bed was perhaps the most comfy I have ever experienced. Well located to walk to old town. The lobby is vibrant but homey. Complimentary appetizers pre dinner and cookies at night. Well priced happy hour. Spotlessly clean. Full made to order breakfast included in room price. These people have thought of everything. My only suggestion is to bring earplugs. The older buildings creak and you can easily hear people walking overhead. There are three separate buildings. I stayed in the main one with bar and restaurant. The other properties have stairs, so beware if that is an issue for you. I hope I have occasion to stay here again. Really top notch.

On the way to/from the Bay area we often stay in Eureka as a half way point. This is the first time we tried the Carter House. What a gem. The location is in the historic district where walking is easy and inviting. Our room was in the main building and was bright, clean and comfortable ,
The staff were excellent. Seemed excited to tell us about amenities including the 'welcome' glass of wine, the happy hour in the main lounge and the 'made to order' complimentary breakfast.
We didn't realize food was available in the small bar off the lobby and opted for their restaurant. it was very special and a bit pricey. The only downside (and it was corrected immediately) was a gratuity charged to our bill for the complimentary breakfast. We had left a tip on the table but were still surprised to see any charge....in all we would stay here again and will recommend it to others.
