Blue Ox Millworks is a running mill and school for "troubled" teens. You get a quick tour by the owner and some instructions and explanation on the equipment. It is rather cool. After the short tour you are left alone to wander around the shop and look around. The mill helps teens learn a skill and gain self esteem over the four year long "job". The owner said that if you give a kid a little self esteem they can do anything. It is worth the price of the tour, $7.50. For nothing else take your kids to see how thing were made with pride and skill, not shipped from China in a box.

This place is a must see, an historic old mill that is in operation today! An operating blacksmith shop, a ceramics works, a real blue ox! I thoroughly enjoyed the antique tools Eric has to demonstrate. No need for electricity.

Eric the owner is an engaging tour guide for this old wood mill. Eric is on a mission to help and show young people the power and value of education and how when it is coupled with a practical real life work problem, it really is important to know what that angle is. Great work Eric

Blue Ox is a woodmill specializing in custom restoration using original techniques and tools. The eccentric (for this century) piece of property reflects the owner's interests in self-sufficency and antique tools of all kinds--it includes work areas for printing, bookmaking, plaster, blacksmithing, ceramics, animal husbandry and a logging skid camp. I'd compare the experience to poking around barns and sheds on my great-grandfather's farm (he had the skills/tools to do/make about anything). It's great that these tools and techniques are not just being preserved, but used and taught to others. It is cluttered and a little chaotic, but it's a business in a 100-year old building, not a theme park. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable.

As for the "Needs some TLC" review, I don't know why anyone would bring a stroller to a mill.

We so enjoyed the time we spent at the Blue Ox Mill. The only problem was, we didn't schedule enough time to see everything there! The antique tools were fascinating, and Eric was so knowledgable about their use. We appreciate the concept of the school and the work that these kind people do with the youth of their community. Great old barn!
