What a neat experience. Lunch wasn't super tasty and was a little more expensive than the meal is worth but it's got historical value and really friendly staff.

To sum up this restaurant, one would have to say with complete confidence: If you miss this venue then you may as well go home and kick your own butt!! I have been to this restaurant (Cookhouse) twice and would like to be able to eat here every night. If you are in the Eureka, CA area please do not miss this place!

We stopped in for supper, it was served up cookhouse style, pot of soup, fresh bread and croutons, garden salad bowl with a bean salad side, then a plate of home baked ham and crispy fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy and kernel corn, and a couple of slices of spice cake with frosty icing, hot tea included. We left full and an appropriate tip. Our compliments to the server and chef!

While trekking through the redwoods along the Pacific Coast Highway there is always a need for a hearty meal. I cannot think of a better place than the Somoa Cookhouse. The restaurant is a historic anachronism, party great restaurant and a reminder of the logging industry that was once vibrant in the redwoods. The food is not gourmet, just hearty, whatever that means. Please do not challenge them with special diets. It is what it is.

The Samoa Cookhouse offers the experience of enjoying a family style meal in an authentic logging camp cookhouse. We went for lunch and had the fried chicken. The meal included soup, green salad, bean salad, fresh bread, fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, vegetables, coffee, tea or soda and desert. And, seconds are included, all for $12.95.
They are open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, but the hours are specific to the meal, so call ahead or check the web site.
In addition to the restaurant, they have a room full of logging memorabilia. The staff is very friendly and will answer questions and offers background stories about the logging history of the area.
